Resolve Alarm Light Errors - PIXMA iP4300 Printer

Description

Understand and resolve flashing orange alarm light errors on your PIXMA iP4300.

Solution

When an error occurs you will see flashing lights on your printer panel. Depending on the error, a support code (error number) and a message may also display on your computer screen.

The light(s) on your printer panel may flash as follows:

  • Repeatedly orange: If so, count the number of flashes and refer to Table 1 below.

  • Alternately between green and orange: Refer to the Table 2 below.

Two (2)

Printer is out of paper.

Paper does not feed.

  • Reload paper in the auto sheet feeder or cassette and tap RESUME/CANCEL.

Three (3)

Paper Output Tray is closed.

Paper jam.

  • If the paper output tray is closed, open it. The printer resumes printing.

  • Remove the jammed paper, reload paper properly in the printer, and then tap RESUME/CANCEL.

Four (4)

Ink tank isn't installed properly.

Ink may have run out.

  • Install an appropriate ink tank.

  • Replacing the ink tank is recommended.

  • If printing is in progress and you want to continue printing, tap RESUME/CANCEL with the ink tank installed. Then printing can continue. Replacing the ink tank is recommended after the printing.

 The printer may be damaged if printing is continued under the ink out condition.

If multiple ink lamps are flashing, check how fast they are flashing.

  • Fast flashing (at about 1-second intervals) indicates the tank is empty.

  • Slow flashing (at about 3-second intervals) indicates ink is low.

Five (5)

Print head isn't installed.

Print head is defective.

  • Follow the directions given in the Easy Setup Instructions to install the print head.

  • If the print head is already installed, remove the print head once and then reinstall it.

  • If the error is still not resolved, the print head may be damaged.

Six (6)

Inner cover is open.

  • Close inner cover, then tap RESUME/CANCEL on the printer.

    Don't open or close the inner cover while printing is in progress, as this can damage the printer.

Seven (7)

Ink tank isn't installed in the correct position.

  • Some ink tanks are not installed in the correct position.

  • More than one ink tanks of the same color are installed.

  • Confirm that the ink tanks are installed in the appropriate positions.

Eight (8)

Ink absorber is almost full.
  • Tap RESUME/CANCEL to cancel the error so you can continue printing.

Once the ink absorber becomes completely full, printing can't be performed until the ink absorber is replaced.

Nine (9)

No response from connected digital camera or video camcorder.

Connected digital camera or video camcorder is not compatible with this printer.

  • Disconnect the cable connecting the printer and the device, and then reconnect it.

  • Depending on the model or brand of your device, you may have to select a PictBridge-compliant print mode on the device before connecting it to the printer. You may also have to turn on the camera or select Play mode manually after connecting the device to the printer.

  • Perform necessary operations according your device's instruction manual before reconnecting it to the printer.

  • If the error is still not resolved, there is a possibility that you are using a digital camera or digital video camcorder that is not supported by this printer. Use a digital camera or digital video camcorder compatible with this printer.

Ten (10)

Can't perform duplex printing.

  • The size of paper may not be compatible with automatic duplex printing.

  • The sizes of media suitable for auto duplex printing are A4, Letter, A5, and 5" x 7".

  • Make sure that the size of the paper loaded in the printer is correct.

  • Taping RESUME/CANCEL will eject the paper and restart printing from the front side of the next paper.

  • The reverse side of the ejected sheet will not be printed.

Eleven (11)

Automatic Print Head Alignment failed.

  • Paper of size other than A4 or Letter is loaded in the auto sheet feeder.

    • Tap RESUME/CANCEL on the printer to dismiss the error, then load a sheet of A4/Letter-sized paper in the auto sheet feeder.

  • Automatic print head alignment can't be performed using paper from the cassette. For automatic print head alignment, always load paper in the auto sheet feeder.

  • Print head nozzles are clogged.

  • The paper output slot is exposed to strong light.

    • Tap RESUME/CANCEL to dismiss the error, and then adjust your operating environment and/or the position of the printer so that the paper output slot is not exposed directly to strong light.

 â€‹After carrying out the above measures, if the problem continues after aligning the print head again, tap RESUME/CANCEL to dismiss the error, and then perform manual print head alignment. For details, see manual print head alignment for Mac OS X® or for Windows.

Thirteen (13)

Ink level can't be detected.

  • Replace the ink tank and close the top cover.

  • Printing with an ink tank that was once empty may damage the printer.

 If you want to continue printing in this condition, you need to release the function for detecting the remaining ink level. Press and hold the RESUME/CANCEL for at least 5 seconds, and then release it.

 With this operation, releasing the function for detecting the ink level is memorized. Please be advised that Canon shall not be liable for any printer malfunction or damage caused by refilled ink tanks.

Fourteen (14)

Ink tank can't be recognized.

Fifteen (15)

 Ink tank can't be recognized.

Sixteen (16)

Ink has run out. The lamp on the ink tank flashes.

  • Replace the ink tank and close the top cover.

  • Printing under the current condition may damage the printer.

 If you want to continue printing in this condition, you need to release the function for detecting the remaining ink level. Press and hold the RESUME/CANCEL for at least 5 seconds, and then release it.

With this operation, releasing the function for detecting the ink level is memorized. Please be advised that Canon shall not be liable for any malfunction or trouble which may be caused by continuation of printing under the ink out condition.

 

Table 2: Light flashes alternately between green and orange

Flashes Cause Action

Green and orange alternates.

An error has occurred.

  • Disconnect the printer cable from the printer, turn the printer off, and then unplug the printer from the power supply.

  • Plug the printer back in and turn the printer back on after leaving it for a while.

  • If the error does not clear, the printer may need to be serviced.
