Wireless LAN connection of your printer to an access point in the "Cableless setup" method - MX472 / MX479 / MX532

Description

This article explains how you can connect your printer wirelessly to a network using the cableless setup method.

 

Solution

The environment necessary for the wireless connection

Before connecting this printer to the network, confirm the following two items, (A) and (B).

 

(A) Access point or router (supporting IEEE802.11b/g/n)
An access point or router is a relay device which connects not only the Internet and network devices such as a computer or printer, but also one network device to another.
So, your access point or router must be properly set before you go to the next setup step.
 
(B) The computer to be used with the printer must be connected to the network.
In order to confirm whether the computer to be used with the printer is connected to the network, try to browse the Internet website from the computer.

 Caution
- If you do not know how to set up the router / access point or the Internet, please refer to:
 
  • Regarding the setup method and the functions of the access point or the router, refer to the instruction manual for the access point or the router you are using, or contact each manufacturer.
     
  • Regarding the setup method of the computer, refer to the instruction manual for the computer you are using, or contact its manufacturer.

 

1. Prepare for the "Cableless setup"

 

Before Starting Wireless Connection Setup

 Note
  • Make sure that the printer is turned on.
     
  • If the power is on, the (green) ON button (A) will be lit.

 

1. Press the [ Setup ] button (B) on the printer.

 

2. Use the or button (C) to select [ Wireless LAN setup ].  Then, press the OK button (D).



The (blue) Wi-Fi lamp (E) lights up when wireless connection is enabled.

 

3. Select [ Other setup ].  Then, press the OK button.

 

4. Select [ Cableless setup ].  Then, press the OK button.

 

5. Confirm that the following message is displayed:

 
Now, the printer is ready for wireless LAN connection in the "Cableless setup" method.
The printer is not yet connected to an access point.

You can use a Windows PC, a Mac, or a mobile device (iOS / Android) to proceed with connecting the printer to a wireless network.

 

2. Install the Software (Windows)

 

 Important
  • Quit all applications before installation.
     
  • Log on using an administrator account.
     
  • Internet connection may be required during the installation. Connection fees apply.

 

1. Insert the CD-ROM into the computer.

 Note
  • If your computer does not have a CD-ROM drive or you do not have the Setup CD, follow the steps given below.
     
    • Visit www.canon.com/ijsetup/.
       
    • Click Set Up.
       
    • Either type in the model name of your printer and click Go, or click the first two letters shown under First Letters. Then, scroll down and click on the model name of your printer.
       
    • Select the region where your printer was purchased.
       
    • On the next page, make sure that Windows is selected from the list of operating systems shown in the pop-up menu at the top right corner.  If it is not, select it
       
    • Click Download. The setup file will be downloaded.
       
    • Double-click the downloaded .exe file.

 

2. Click [ Run Msetup4.exe ] on the AutoPlay screen, then click [ Yes ] or [ Continue ] on the User Account Control dialog box.  If the User Account Control dialog box reappears in following steps, click [ Yes ] or [ Continue ].


 

 Note
  • If the CD-ROM does not autorun:
    Double-click [ (My) Computer ] > CDROM icon > [ MSETUP4.EXE. ]

 

3. Click [ Next ].
 

 

4. Click [ Wireless Connection ].
 

 

5. Click [ Connect to the network ].
 

 

6. Click [ Cableless setup ].
 

 

 Note
  • When the .NET Framework screen appears, click [Yes].

 

7. Click [ Next ].
 


 Note regarding Easy-WebPrint EX
  • Easy-WebPrint EX is Web print software that is installed on the computer when installing the supplied software. Internet Explorer 7 or later (Windows) is required to use this software. An Internet connection is required for installation.

 

Follow any on-screen instructions to proceed with the software installation.

 

8. When the Setup Completion dialog box appears, click [ Complete ].
 

 

9. Click [ Next ].

 

- Important Information for the installation
 
  • If the Extended Survey Program screen appears



    If you can agree to Extended Survey Program, click [ Agree ].
    If you click [ Do not agree ], the Extended Survey Program will not be installed.
    (This has no effect on the machine's functionality.)
 
  • When the Test Print window is displayed



    Test printing will be performed to check the printer's operation.
    Load plain paper into the printer and click [ Execute ].
    After test printing, click [ Next ].
    To skip test printing, click [ Next ] instead of [ Execute ].

 

10. Click [ Exit ] to complete the installation.  Remove the Setup CD-ROM and keep it in a safe place.

 

11. Quick Menu starts.

 

The wireless LAN connection of your printer to the access point in the "Cableless setup" method is completed.

 

2. Install the Software (Mac OS X)

 

 Important
  • Quit all applications before installation.

 

1. Visit www.canon.com/ijsetup/.
 
2. Click Set Up.
 
3. Either type in the model name of your printer and click Go, or click the first two letters shown under First Letters. Then, scroll down and click on the model name of your printer.
 
4. Select the region where your printer was purchased.
 
5. On the next page, make sure that macOS is selected from the list of operating systems shown.  If it is not, select it.

6. Click Download. The setup file will be downloaded.  Open this file when it has finished downloading.

 

7. Double-click the [ Setup ] icon.
 

 

8. Click [ Next ].
 

 

9. In the subsequent screen, enter the administrator name and password. Then click [ Install Helper ].

 

10. Click [ Next ].

 

11. Click [ Wireless Connection ].
 

 

12. Click [ Connect to the network ].
 

 

13. Click [ Cableless setup ].
 

 

14. Click [ Next ].
 

 

Follow any on-screen instructions to proceed with the software installation.

 

15. Click [ Add Printer ].
 

 Note
  • The alphanumeric characters after "Canon xxx series" is the machines Bonjour service name or MAC address.
     
  • If the printer is not detected, make sure of the following.
    • The printer is turned on.
       
    • The firewall function of any security software is turned off.
       
    • The computer is connected to the network.

 

16. Select [ Canon xxx series Canon IJ Network ] and click [ Add ].
 

 Caution
  • If you will be installing the Canon printer driver on Mac OS X and using the printer through a network connection, you can select [ Bonjour ] or [ Canon IJ Network ] in the [Add Printer] dialog.
     
  • If [ Bonjour ] is selected, remaining ink level messages may differ from those indicated by [ Canon IJ Network ].
    Canon recommends you to use [Canon IJ Network] for printing.

 

17. Click [ Next ].
 

 

18. Click [ Next ].
 

 

- Important Information for the installation

 

  • If the Extended Survey Program screen appears
