How do you transfer photos recorded to an SD card to a computer? (XF200 / XF205)

Solution

Although FTP file transfer and Browser Remote can be used to save image files from an SD card to a computer, you can also connect the camcorder to a computer using a USB cable, or use a commercially available memory card reader as well.
Procedures for connecting the camcorder to a computer using a USB cable and using a commercially available memory card reader are explained in the following sections.
To save image files using FTP file transfer or Browser Remote, please refer to the links in the related information section at the bottom of the page.

Connecting the camcorder to a computer via a USB cable

1. Insert an SD memory card to the camcorders SD card slot, and then connect the camcorder to a computer.
For details on how to connect the camcorder to a computer, please see Importing MP4 Clips Recorded on the Camcorder to a Computer Using Data Import Utility (XF200 / XF205).

2. After the SD memory card is automatically recognized by the computer, open the [DCIM] folder of the SD memory card.

3. Copy the photos in the folder to the computer.
The photos are saved in the [xxx-mmdd] folder in the [DCIM] folder.
* xxx: 3-digit folder number, mmdd: month and day
IMPORTANT
  • Observe the following precautions while the SD card access indicator is flashing. Failure to do so may result in permanent data loss.
-Do not disconnect the power source or turn off the camcorder.
-Do not remove the SD card.
  • Turn off the camcorder before inserting or removing an SD card. Inserting or removing the SD card with the camcorder on may result in permanent data loss.
  • SD cards have front and back sides that are not interchangeable. Inserting an SD card facing the wrong direction can cause a malfunction of the camcorder.

Using a memory card reader

1. Insert an SD memory card to a commercially available memory card reader, and connect the card reader to a computer.

2. After the SD memory card is read by a computer, open the [DCIM] folder of the SD memory card.

3. Copy the photos in the folder to the computer.
The photos are saved in the [xxx-mmdd] folder in the [DCIM] folder.
* xxx: 3-digit folder number, mmdd: month and day
NOTE
When the photos recorded to an SD card on June 1 are displayed on a computer, the file name of the photo with the number [100-0007] is displayed as [IMG_0007.JPG] in the [DCIM 100\0601] folder.
