Learn how to use Access Point Mode to print with your PIXMA printer from your mobile device or computer, when a wireless network is not available.

Solution

If you don't have access to a wireless network (LAN), you can enable access point mode, which allows you to print and scan from a computer or mobile device.


Before you begin

  • Before you enable this mode, confirm the usage restrictions.

  • If you plan to frequently use this mode, we recommend that you change the default access point settings to ensure your security (see below for help).


Enable access point mode

  1. Make sure the printer is turned ON.

  2. Press and hold the Wi-Fi® button on the printer until the Alarm lamp flashes 3 times.

  3. Release the Wi-Fi button. When the ON lamp changes from flashing to lit, access point mode is enabled.


How to print or scan using access mode

  1. Connect an external device such as a computer or a smartphone to the machine via wireless LAN.

  2. Set up the wireless LAN settings for your device, using the access point name of the printer as the location where you want to connect.
    Note See the device's instruction manual, for specific connection instructions.
    Note When a WPA2-PSK (AES) password is valid on the machine, the password is required to connect an external wireless device to the machine.

  3. Start printing or scanning from an external device such as a computer or a smartphone.

Turn access point mode off

If you want to turn access point mode off (after using it temporarily):

  1. Press and hold the Wi-Fi button on the printer until the Alarm lamp flashes 4 times.

  2. ​Release the Wi-Fi button. When the ON lamp changes from flashing to lit, the access point mode is disabled, and the wireless LAN mode is enabled.

If you don't want to use the access point mode point mode or the wireless LAN (turn both off):

  1. Press and hold the Stop button until the Alarm lamp flashes 18 times.

  2. Release the Stop button.

  3. Press the Black button.

  4. The Wi-Fi lamp goes off.


Change access mode settings

The initial value (default setting) of the access point mode is as follows:

SSID (router name)

 XXXXXX-MG2900series

 * "XXXXXX" is the last six digits of MAC address of the machine.
Security setting WPA2-PSK (AES)
Password Serial number of the machine

To confirm the printer's MAC address, you can print out the network setting information.
