This article explains how to set up your PIXMA MG2920 / MG2922 / MG2924 using the cableless setup method.

 

Solution

The environment necessary for the wireless connection

Before connecting this printer to the network, confirm the following two items, (A) and (B).


 

  1. Access point or router (supporting IEEE802.11b/g/n)

    An access point or router is a relay device which connects not only the Internet and network devices such as a computer or printer, but also one network device to another.

    So, your access point or router must be properly set before you go to the next setup step.
     
  2. The computer to be used with the printer must be connected to the network.

    In order to confirm whether the computer to be used with the printer is connected to the network, try to browse the Internet website from the computer.

 Caution
  • If you do not know how to set up the router / access point or the Internet, please refer to:
     
  • Regarding the setup method and the functions of the access point or the router, refer to the instruction manual for the access point or the router you are using, or contact each manufacturer.
     
  • Regarding the setup method of the computer, refer to the instruction manual for the computer you are using, or contact its manufacturer.

 

1. Prepare for the "Cableless setup"

 

Before Starting Wireless Connection Setup

 Note
  • Make sure that the printer is turned on.

  1. Hold down the Wi-Fi button (A) on the printer until the Alarm lamp (B) flashes 2 times, then release the Wi-Fi button after the second flash.


     
  2. Make sure the Wi-Fi lamp (C) flashes quickly and the POWER lamp is lit as shown below.

 

Now, the printer is ready for wireless LAN connection in the "Cableless setup" method.
The printer is not yet connected to an access point. To complete the connection, you need to install the software.

2. Install the Software (Windows)

 

 Important

  • Quit all applications before installation.
     
  • Log on using an administrator account.

 

 Note

  • If the computer is equipped with a CD-ROM drive, you can use the Setup CD-ROM for installation.


     
  • Click [ Run Msetup4.exe ] on the AutoPlay screen, then click [ Yes ] or [ Continue ] on the User Account Control dialog box.

    If the CD-ROM does not autorun:
    Double-click [ (My) Computer ] > CDROM icon > [ MSETUP4.EXE. ]
    Go to Step 6 and follow the instructions.

 

  1. Click here.
     
  2. Type the name of your printer into the box near the top and click Go, or click on the appropriate letters under First Letters.  Then, scroll down and click on the name of your printer.
     
  3. Select your region.
     
  4. Make sure that Windows appears in the drop down menu at the upper right corner of the page.  If it does not, click that menu and select Windows.  Then, click Download.



    If you are asked to run or save the file, save it to your computer.
     
  5. Double-click the downloaded .exe file.
    The setup will start automatically. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete installation.


     
  6. Click [ Next ].


     
  7. Click [ Wireless LAN Connection ].


     
  8. Click [ Access Point Connection (recommended) ].


     
  9. Click [ Next ].


     
  10. Click [ Cableless setup ].

 

 Note

  • When the .NET Framework screen appears, click [Yes].

 

  1. Click [ Next ].


 Note regarding Easy-WebPrint EX
  • Easy-WebPrint EX is Web print software that is installed on the computer when installing the supplied software. Internet Explorer 7 or later (Windows) is required to use this software. An Internet connection is required for installation.

Follow any on-screen instructions to proceed with the software installation.

 

  1. When the Setup Completion dialog box appears, click [ Complete ].


     
  2. Click [ Next ].

 

Important Information for the installation
 

  • If the Extended Survey Program screen appears



    If you can agree to Extended Survey Program, click [ Agree ].
    If you click [ Do not agree ], the Extended Survey Program will not be installed.
    (This has no effect on the machine's functionality.)
     
  • When the Test Print window is displayed



    Test printing will be performed to check the printer's operation.
    Load plain paper into the printer and click [ Execute ].
    After test printing, click [ Next ].
    To skip test printing, click [ Next ] instead of [ Execute ].

 

  1. Click [ Exit ] to complete the installation.


     
  2. Quick Menu starts.

 

The wireless LAN connection of your printer to the access point in the "Cableless setup" method is completed.



2. Install the Software (Mac OS X)

 

 Important
  • Quit all applications before installation.

  • The instructions below apply to macOS 10.6.8 through 10.12.

  • If you are running macOS 10.13 or newer, cableless setup is not supported.  You will need to download and install the drivers and software from our product support pages.

    • On the Drivers tab, click the Select button to the right of the CUPS printer driver and the ICA driver.

      Click the Download button for each of the drivers.

    • On the Software tab, click the Select button to the right of the IJ Scan Utility and the IJ Network Tool.

      Click the Download button for the IJ Scan Utility and the IJ Network Tool.

      If you wish to download any additional software, click the Select button, then the Download button for each program you want.

      If you are asked to open or save the files, save them to your computer.

    • Open each of the files that you have downloaded.  Double-click on the .pkg files.  Follow all on-screen instructions to install the drivers, the IJ Scan Utility, and the IJ Network Tool.  

    • After installing the drivers and the software, connect a USB cable between your computer and the printer.  Make sure the printer is powered on.

    • You will need to run the IJ Network Tool in order to establish a wireless connection between the printer, computer, and router.  Click here for instructions.

    • If you do not have a USB cable, you can set up the printer via the Cableless setup method with an iOS or an Android device.


macOS 10.6.8 through 10.12 instructions are below.


 

  1. Click here.
     
  2. Type the name of your printer into the box near the top and click Go, or click on the appropriate letters under First Letters.  Then, scroll down and click on the name of your printer.
     
  3. Select your region.
     
  4. Make sure that macOS appears in the drop down menu at the upper right corner of the page.  If it does not, click that menu and select macOS.  Then, click Download.



    If you are asked to run or save the file, save it to your computer.
     
  5. Double-click the [ Setup ] icon.


     
  6. Click [ Next ].


     
  7. In the subsequent screen, enter the administrator name and password. Then click [ Install Helper ].


     
  8. Click [ Next ].


     
  9. Click [ Wireless LAN Connection ].


     
  10. Click [ Access Point Connection (recommended) ].


     
  11. Click [ Next ].


     
  12. Click [ Cableless setup ].


     
  13. Click [ Next ].



    Follow any on-screen instructions to proceed with the software installation.
     
  14. Click [ Add Printer ].

 Note
  • The alphanumeric characters after "Canon xxx series" is the machines Bonjour service name or MAC address.
     
  • If the printer is not detected, make sure of the following.
    • The printer is turned on.
       
    • The firewall function of any security software is turned off.
       
    • The computer is connected to the wireless network.

 

  1. Select [ Canon xxx series Canon IJ Network ] and click [ Add ].

 Caution
  • If you will be installing the Canon printer driver on Mac OS X and using the printer through a network connection, you can select [ Bonjour ] or [ Canon IJ Network ] in the [Add Printer] dialog.
     
  • If [ Bonjour ] is selected, remaining ink level messages may differ from those indicated by [ Canon IJ Network ].
    Canon recommends you to use [Canon IJ Network] for printing.

 

  1. Click [ Next ].


     
  2. Click [ Next ].

 

Important Information for the installation
 

  • If the Extended Survey Program screen appears

The wireless LAN connection of your printer to the access point in the "Cableless setup" method is completed.



iOS / Android

When your printer is connected to a wireless network, you can use the Canon PRINT Inkjet / SELPHY app to print and scan with your mobile device.

If your printer has not been connected to the network, you can use this app to connect the printer to the network via the Cableless setup method.
