How to install the Digital Camera Solutions Disk software on Windows

This section describes how to install the software on Windows XP.

This installation can be completed in two steps:

Attention:

1. Do not connect the camera to the computer until the end of Step I.
2. Users must first log in as an Administrator to install programs.

Items to prepare
(1) Your camera and computer
(2) Canon Digital Camera Solution Disk
(3) Interface cable supplied with the camera

Step I: Install the software from Canon Digital Camera Solution Disk.

1. Close all programs that are running.

2. Place the Canon Digital Camera Solution Disk in the computer's CD-ROM drive.

  • The installer panel will appear automatically.
If the installer panel does not appear, use the following procedures to display it.
(2-1) Double-click the [My Computer] icon on the desktop.
(2-2) Right-click the CD-ROM icon and select [Open].
(2-3) Double-click the [Setup.exe] icon.

Some computers may not display the [.exe] file name extension as shown above.

3. In the installer panel, click the [Easy Installation] button under [Digital Camera Software].

  • Follow any instructions to restart your computer, if they appear.
    When the following dialog box (Step 4) appears, continue with the installation.
  • Select [Custom Installation] to select programs individually for installation.
4. Click [Install].

5. Read the software license agreement and click [Yes] if you consent to all the conditions. The installation will begin.

  • Follow the on-screen instructions to proceed.
    Depending on the type and amount of software being installed, it may take some time.
6. Once installation is complete click [Next].


7. Select [Restart] dialog box, and click [Finish].


If the message [Yes, I want to restart my computer now.] does not appear, follow the instructions below.
(1) Click [Finish].
(2) When the Installer Panel appears, click [Exit] to close it.
(3) Restart the computer from the [Start] menu.
Attention:
1. Do not remove the Canon Digital Camera Solution Disk until the computer has finished restarting.
2. Users must first log in as an Administrator after restarting the computer.
8. Remove Canon Digital Camera Solution Disk from the CD-ROM drive when your normal desktop screen appears after restarting.
This concludes Step I, the software installation from the Canon Digital Camera Solution Disk.
Please proceeed to Step II. Connect the camera to the computer to complete the software installation.

Step II: Connect the camera to the computer to complete the software installation.

1. Connect the computer's USB port and the camera's Digital Terminal with the supplied USB cable.
  • You do not need to shut off the computer for this step, but set the camera's power switch to <OFF> until the camera is connected to the computer.
Please follow these precautions when connecting the camera to the computer.
(1) Connect the camera directly to the computer with a USB cable.
(2) The connection may not operate correctly if you are using other USB devices, excluding USB mice or keyboards, at the same time.
If this occurs, disconnect the other USB devices from the computer and try reconnecting the camera to the computer.
(3) Do not connect two or more cameras to the same computer via the USB interface. The connections may not operate correctly.
(4) Please refer to the [Camera User Guide] supplied with your camera for instructions on how to connect the camera and attach/detach the cable.
(5) Please make sure that the software installation has been already completed.

2. Set the camera's mode switch to <Replay> and turn the power <ON>.
  • For some cameras, the power will come on automatically when connecting to the computer. For more information, refer to the [Camera User Guide] with your camera.

3. After a few moments, the balloon [New Hardware Found---Canon Digital Camera] will appear for a while on the right-bottom of the display.


  • The Event dialog may appear, allowing you to select an application to start.
    Click [Cancel] if you do not import images from the camera now. (Your camera name will appear in the title of the window).


The software installation is complete.
