Procedure for setting the Long Shutter function for the PowerShot A460, A550 and A560.

Solution

Setting a Slow Shutter Speed (Long Shutter Mode)

You can set the shutter speed to a slow setting to make dark subjects appear brighter. This function is available in the (Manual Mode).

  1. Press the <FUNC./SET> button to display the function menu.
  2. Use the or button to select *.

    *The current setting is displayed.
  3. Press the <Menu> button. The following screen will be displayed.

  4. Use the or buttons to select the desired shutter speed. Once selected press the <FUNC./SET> button.

    - The higher the value, the brighter the image and the lower the value, the darker the image.
    - If you press the MENU button at this point, you will return to the Exposure Compensation setting screen.
  5. Shoot the image
  • Use the LCD monitor to confirm that the image was recorded at the desired brightness.
  • Please note that camera shake becomes a factor at low shutter speeds. Shoot with the camera attached to a tripod.
  • Use of the flash may result in an over-exposed image. If this occurs, shoot with the flash set to .
  • The following are unavailable in long shutter mode:
    - Exposure Compensation
    - Metering
    - ISO speed: Auto
    - Flash: Auto
    - Slow Synchro
  • This setting is reset once the camera is turned off.
  • The nature of CCDs is such that noise in the recorded image increases at long shutter speeds. This camera, however, applies special processing to images shot at shutter speeds slower than 1.3 seconds to eliminate the noise, thereby producing high-quality images. A certain amount of processing time, however, may be required before the next image can be shot.
