Reinstall the Print Head on a PIXMA MP610

Description

Learn how to remove the ink tanks and reseat the print head on a PIXMA MP610 printer.

Solution

You can often correct print issues or clear an error when you reseat the print head.


Reseat the print head

  1. Turn the printer ON.

  2. Pull open the paper output tray and extend the paper support.

  3. Lift the scanning unit (printer cover) all the way. The print head moves to the replacement position.

    Note If the printer cover is open for more than ten minutes, the print head moves to the right side. If this happens, close, then reopen the printer cover.

  4. Open the inner cover.

  5. Press the tab of each ink tank to remove it. Remove the tanks one at a time (see image slide show below). 
    Caution Handle the ink tanks with care so you don't stain your clothes or the surrounding area.

  6. Raise the print head lock lever. Tilt the print head slightly towards the front of the machine and gently lift it out (see image slide sow below).

    Caution Don't touch the print head nozzles (1), electrical contacts (2), or ink supply ports (3). If you do, it may cause printing problems.

  7. Place the print head in the print head holder and carefully lower the print head lock lever until you hear a click (see image slide show below).

  8. Reinsert the ink tanks into the print head one at a time. Firmly press the PUSH mark on each ink tank until you hear it click into place (see image slide show below).

  9. Make sure all the ink tanks are installed correctly. The lamp will light red when the tank is installed.

  10. Close the inner cover and the scanning unit (printer cover). Be careful not to jam your fingers.

    Note When you start the next print task, the print head automatically begins to clean. Wait for it to finish.

Good to know

You can see the status of each ink tank if you check the way the lamp flashes.

  • Lamp is on: The printer is ready to print.

  • Lamp flashes slowly (about every 3 seconds): Ink is low. Prepare a new ink tank.

  • Lamp flashes quickly (about every second): Ink tank is empty or there is a printer error.

  • Lamp is off:  The ink tank may not be completely installed. Otherwise, there may be a printer error.
