Solution

Here describes how to install the WIA driver on Windows XP.
The WIA driver is the USB compliant driver that supports Windows Me/XP.)
This operation can be completed by following two steps.
Step I: Install the driver software from EOS DIGITAL SOLUTION DISK.
Step II: Connect the camera to the computer to complete the WIA driver installation.
Attention 1: Do not connect the camera to the computer prior to Step II. Installation may not be done correctly if it is connected.
Attention 2: You must first log in as an Administrator (computer system administrator) to install programs.
Step I: Install the driver software from EOS DIGITAL SOLUTION DISK
1. Close any programs that are running.
2. Place the EOS DIGITAL SOLUTION DISK to the computer's CD-ROM drive.
The installer panel will display automatically.
If the installer panel does not appear automatically, use the following procedures to display it.
(2-1) Click the [Start] button and [My Computer].
(2-2) Right-click the icon for CD-ROM drive containing the EOS DIGITAL SOLUTION DISK and select [Open].
(2-3) Double-click the [Setup] icon.

3. Click [Software Installation] in the installer panel.

4. Click [Next].

5. Read all of the Software User License Agreement carefully. Click the [Yes] button if you consent to the terms of the license.

6. Select the installation destination and click [Next].
7. Click the check box for [Canon Camera WIA Driver] in the [Select Features] dialog box and click [Next].
Confirm that a check mark is only on [Canon Camera WIA Driver] box. Remove other check marks by clicking other check boxes if necessary.

8. Click the [Camera Model Name] check box in the [Select Features] dialog box and click [Next].

9. Confirm the contents of installation in the Start Copying File dialog box and click [Next].

10. Click [OK] in the [Canon Solution Disk setup program has copied the required files to your computer.] dialog box.

11. In the [InstallShield Wizard Complete] dialog, select [Yes, I want to restart my computer now.] and click [Finish].
If [Yes, I want to restart my computer now.] does not appear, follow the instruction below.
(1) Click [Finish].
(2) Click [Exit] to close the installer panel if it starts.
(3) From the [Start] menu, restart the computer.
Attention: Do not remove the EOS DIGITAL SOLUTION DISK before restarting.
12. Remove the EOS DIGITAL SOLUTION DISK from the CD-ROM drive when the computer has restarted and the regular desktop screen is displayed.

If the installer panel will display, click the [Exit] button to close the installer panel and then remove the EOS DIGITAL SOLUTION DISK.

Here ends Step I, the driver software installation from the EOS DIGITAL SOLUTION DISK.
Now, continue with Step II to complete the WIA driver installation.

Step II: Complete the WIA driver installation
Attention 1: Set the camera's Auto power off function to [OFF] in advance.
Attention 2: Check [Communication] in menu is set to [Normal].
13. Set the camera's power switch to <OFF>.
14. Plug the interface cable into the USB port of the computer.
The location of the USB port differs depending on your computer. For further instructions, refer to User's Manual for your computer.

Attention: Confirm that the camera's power switch is set to [OFF] before connecting the camera to the computer.
15. Plug the other side of the interface cable into the camera's DIGITAL terminal.

Precautions when connecting the interface cable
(1) Use only the interface cable supplied with your camera when connecting the camera to the computer.
(2) Connect the camera directly to the computer's USB port via a interface cable. If you connect through a USB hub, the camera may not operate correctly.
(3) Never use other USB compliant devices at the same time (excludes a USB mouse or keyboard). The connection may not operate correctly.
(4) Never connect more than one camera to the same computer. The camera may not operate correctly.
(5) Never allow the computer to go into standby (sleep) mode while a camera is connected via the USB interface. If this does happen, try to awaken the computer with the camera connected.
16. Set the camera's power switch to <ON>.
The [Found New Hardware] message appears. When the message automatically disappears, installation is complete.
Attention: Do not set the camera's power switch to [OFF] until the installation is complete.
After the installation, if the [Camera Model Name] screen appears, click [Cancel] to close the screen.
If you are prompted to restart the computer, restart it according to the onscreen messages.
The WIA driver installation is now complete.
