Description

How to create a catchlight with the flash

Solution

Creating a Catchlight

A catchlight is a reflection of the flash in the subject's eyes. A catchlight in the eyes makes the sjubect look more lively. For portraits, you can easily create a catchlight with the 550EX

Tilt the flash head upward all the way to 90°. Extend the built-in wide panel until it clicks in place as shown in the figure.
  • Turning the flash head left or right will not produce a catchlight. Tilt the flash heard up by 90° and use it in that position.
  • The subject should be no farther than 1.5 meters/4.9 feet from the camera
