Acquiring and installing the OmniPage SE update

To acquire the OmniPage SE update, visit the Nuance website at:
www.nuance.com/vista/omnipage/canon/

This will take you to the 'Download Request Form' to enter your name and email address. Once completed, you will receive an email from Nuance with some instructions and a link to download the update.

Important: Please be sure to read the email carefully and follow any instructions given.

One key instruction given in the email will be as follows.

- You must first install, and then remove the OmniPage SE software that originally came with your scanner or MFP through Add/Remove programs before you can install this update. This update is intended to insure compatibility with Windows Vista and/or Internet Explorer 7.

Information on Installing the Canon OmniPage SE 4 update for Microsoft Vista

Installation messages may appear during the installation of the Canon OmniPage SE 4 update for Microsoft Vista. The specific message is determined by the current status of OmniPage being installed on the system.

Message # 1: "This is an update product and cannot be installed unless a previous Canon-specific OmniPage SE product is present on your computer.":

  • A Canon-release of OmniPage SE was not detected on this machine. Please install your Canon-release of OmniPage SE 2, 3 or 4 before attempting to proceed with the OmniPage SE 4 update installation.

Message # 2: "Another version of OmniPage product is already installed. Installation of this version cannot continue. To configure or remove the existing version of this product, use Add/Remove Programs on the Control Panel.":

  • OmniPage is currently installed on the machine. If this is a Canon-release of OmniPage SE, please uninstall the current version through Add/Remove Programs. Once the previous version of Canon OmniPage SE has been removed from the system, restart the computer and then proceed with the installation of the Canon OmniPage SE 4 update.

Disable Direct OCR in OmniPage SE 4 or from MS Config

Please follow the steps below to disable Direct OCR:

To disable Direct OCR in OmniPage SE 4:

  1. Launch OmniPage SE 4.
  2. Click Tools and then Options.
  3. Click the Direct OCR tab.
  4. Uncheck the Enable Direct OCR checkbox.
  5. Click OK to apply the changes.
  6. Internet Explorer 7 should now launch successfully.

To disable Direct OCR using MS Config:

  1. Click Start.
  2. Type "MSCONFIG" in the Start Search field and press Enter.
  3. Click the Startup tab.
  4. Uncheck the checkbox next to the Startup Item named OmniPage.
  5. Click OK to apply the changes.
  6. Restart the computer.
  7. Internet Explorer 7 should now launch successfully.
