When attempting to reinstall the USB driver for my digital camera, I get an error -- "Class installer has denied the request..." or "Your registry may be bad (Code 19)"

The most common symptoms that lead to this error begin with an apparently normal (successful) driver installation and proper functioning of the camera driver. At some later time, or possibly the next time you boot the computer, the driver stops functioning. When you attempt to communicate with the digital camera from a graphics application, you receive the message "Unable to detect camera".

After following recommended troubleshooting procedures, at some point you will uninstall the driver and attempt to reinstall it. During the reinstallation attempt, you may see the message "Class installer has denied the request to install or upgrade this device". Or, upon checking the Device Manager, you may find the digital camera entry (under Imaging Devices) with a yellow exclamation mark on it. Upon checking the Properties, you may see the message "Your registry may be bad. (Code 19)"

The issue you have been experiencing is related to a KLEZ.H virus. Although this virus is not related to Canon's driver, it is affecting your Windows operating system by removing the installed registry entries each time Windows is restarted or the virus is launched. To verify whether your system is infected, search the files on your computer for "WINK*.EXE". If found (the * represents a random sequence of characters, but the first four letters will be WINK), it is pretty certain that your computer is infected.

Please consult your computer manufacturer or your anti-virus vendor to download and run their respective tool to remove this infection. Since this is an involved procedure, and requires the steps to be performed in a specific sequence to safely remove the virus, please refer to the appropriate instructions.
