Solution

Check Printer appears on the C3000, C3500, C5000, C5500 or C635

Problem Description

After printing a document, a received fax, a report or making a copy, the MultiPASS displays [Check Printer].

The printer carriage will not move for the following reasons:

  • The cartridge may not be installed correctly.
  • There may be an obstruction in the printer path.
  • The cartridge may have overheated.
  • The cartridge may be defective.

Check the cartridge installation.

  1. Press the <CARTRIDGE> button. (The button is located above the One-touch buttons.)

If the printer carriage will not move to the center, skip to 'Obstruction'.

  1. Lift the Automatic Document Feeder (also referred to as the Printer Cover).
  2. Wait for the printer carriage to stop moving. Once the carriage has centered, raise the lock lever to release the cartridge. The lever is on the right side of the cartridge holder.
  3. Lift the ink cartridge out of the MultiPASS.
  4. Place the cartridge back into position. Make sure the cartridge is aligned against the back of the holder.
  5. Press down the lever to lock the cartridge in place.
  6. Press the <CARTRIDGE> button and close the printer cover.

Obstruction:

  1. Lift the Automatic Document Feeder (also referred to as the Printer Cover).
  2. Check for a paper jam, paper clip, or other foreign material that may keep the printer carriage from sliding left or right.
  3. Carefully remove the obstruction and press the <CARTRIDGE> button again.

Overheated cartridge:

  1. Unplug the power cord to the MultiPASS.
  2. Allow the cartridge and printer to cool off for approximately 10 minutes.
  3. Reconnect the power cord and press the <CARTRIDGE> button.

Note: The unit has a battery back-up for your fax's user settings (i. e. your unit's fax number, name, etc.). However, any faxes stored in memory will be lost. Once power is restored and the unit is able to print, a Memory Clear report will print. This report will provide you a listing of the faxes that were lost due to power interruption. Contact the parties on this list to have them resend you the faxes.
.

Defective cartridge:

  1. If the carriage has stopped in the center, lift the cartridge out of the MultiPASS and replace it.
  2. Open the BJ cartridge packaging and remove the new cartridge.
  3. Lift off the orange protective cap and remove the orange tape.
  4. Slide the new cartridge into position. Make sure the cartridge is aligned against the back of the holder.
  5. Press down the lever to lock the cartridge in place.
  6. Press the <CARTRIDGE> button and close the printer cover.
