How to set IP address filtering (Windows)

An IP address is a number that identifies a computer or a network device, used to specify the receiver of a data packet.A unique IP address must be assigned to each device within the TCP/IP network. IP address filtering specifies particular devices permitted to connect to the printer by registering their IP addresses to the printer.

In this printer, this function is called printer access control (IP address). To enable this feature, you must register the IP addresses of the computers and network devices permitted to connect to the printer over the network.

Procedures

Note: Check IP addresses of all network devices that are to use the printer over a network in advance. To check the IP addresses of the computers and the network devices, refer to their manuals or contact their manufacturers.

1. Connect the printer to the computer with a USB cable, then turn on the printer.

Note: Using a USB connection is recommended to change the settings. If settings are changed through a wireless LAN connection, the computer may not be able to communicate with the printer depending on which item you have set.

2. Launch Canon IJ Network Tool.

3. Select the printer name in Printers, then click 'Configuration'.

4. Click the 'Access Control' tab.

5. Select 'IP Address' in Printer Access Control Type, then check 'Enable printer access control (IP Address).'

Note: The two types of access control, by MAC address and by IP address, can be enabled at the same time.
An access control type is enabled as long as the check box is selected, regardless of the type currently displayed by selecting in Printer Access Control Type.

When access control types are enabled at the same time, a computer or a network device whose address is registered to either list will be allowed access to the printer.

6. Click 'Add'.

7. Enter the IP address.

Note: Register IP addresses of all network devices that are to use the printer over a network. When IP address filtering is enabled, unregistered devices will not be able to access the printer.

Select either 'Single Address Specification' or 'Range Specification' to specify IP addresses.

( Selecting 'Single Address Specification' )

a) Specify the IP address.

b) Optionally, enter any information to identify the device, such as the name of the computer.

Note: Comments can be checked only on the computer used to enter them.

( Selecting 'Range Specification' )

a) Specify the Start IP Address. Enter the first IP address in the range of addresses of the computers or network devices to allow access.

b) Specify the End IP Address. Enter the last IP address in the range of addresses of the computers or network devices to allow access.

Note: The Start IP Address must be a smaller value than the End IP Address.

c) Optionally, enter any information to identify the device, such as the name of the computer.

Note: Comments can be checked only in the computer used to enter them.

8. Click 'OK'.

9. Confirm that the IP address you entered in procedure 7 is displayed in Accessible IP Addresses, then click 'OK'.

10. When the confirmation window is displayed, click 'Yes'. The specified settings will be transmitted to the printer.

11. When the Transmitted Settings window is displayed, confirm the transmitted settings and click 'OK'.

12. Turn off the printer, then remove the USB cable which connects the printer to the computer.

Setting IP address filtering is completed.
