How to remove and install interchangeable focus screens on EOS 1 series, and EOS 5D series bodies.

Solution

  1. Release Hook

  2. Focusing Screen

  3. Focusing Screen Tab

  4. Frame Holder

  5. Mirror

To change focusing screens, please follow the procedure below:

  1. Hold the camera with the mount facing up to prevent the focusing screen from falling.
  2. Lift up on the release hook with the tool to lower the frame holder. (Fig. A)
  3. Clamp the tool on the focusing screen tab and slowly remove it. (Fig. B)
  4. Set the screen upright in the back of the storage case.
  5. Clamp the tool on the new focusing screen tab and carefully place it inside the frame holder.
  6. Push up on the frame holder tab with the tool to lock it in place. Be careful not to scratch the underside of the screen with the tool.
Precautions:
  1. Do not handle the focusing screen with your hands. The screen is extremely delicate and difficult to clean fingerprints off of.
  2. Be sure that the mirror is not soiled by fingerprints or other foreign materials.
