Perform a Manual Print Head Alignment (Windows)

After confirming that the cable is connected and the printer is powered on, perform the following:

1. Open the printer's Preferences / Properties.
   
   For Windows 7
   • Click the 'Start' button from the bottom left of the Windows screen, and then click on 'Devices and Printers'.
   • Click your right mouse button on the listing for your printer, and then select 'Printing Preferences' from the menu that appears.
     

   For Windows Vista

   • Click / Select the 'Start' from the bottom left of the Windows screen, 'Control Panel', 'Hardware and Sound', and then click on 'Printers'. Note: If you are in 'Classic' view, click 'Printers' directly from the 'Control Panel'.
   • Click your right mouse button on the listing for your printer, and then select 'Preferences' from the menu that appears.
     

   For Windows XP Home Edition

   • Click / Select the 'Start' button from the bottom left of the Windows screen, 'Control Panel,' 'Printers and Other Hardware,' and 'Printers and Faxes.'
   • Click your right mouse button on the listing for your printer, and then select 'Preferences' from the menu that appears.

   
   For Windows XP Professional Edition

   • Click 'Start' from the bottom left of the Windows screen, and 'Printers and Faxes.'
   • Click your right mouse button on the listing for your printer, and then select 'Preferences' from the menu that appears.

   
   For Windows 2000

   • Click / Select 'Start' from the bottom left of the Windows screen, and 'Settings,' then 'Printers.'
   • Click your right mouse button on the listing for your printer, and then select 'Properties' from the menu that appears.
   
   
   
2. Click the Maintenance tab and click 'Custom Settings'.
   
   
   
   
3. Select 'Align heads manually' and click 'Send'.
   
   
   
   
4. Click 'OK' to send the settings to the printer.
   
   
   
   
5. Click the Maintenance tab and click 'Print Head Alignment'.
   
   
   
   
6. The message below is displayed. After confirming the two points below, click 'Print Head Alignment'.
   
   
   • Is the printer powered on?
   • Is letter-sized plain paper set in the printer?
   
   
   
   
   
7. The following message is displayed. Click 'OK'. Print head cleaning starts. The power lamp flashes during cleaning operation. Do not perform other operations. After cleaning has finished, the head alignment pattern will be printed.
   
   
   
   
8. The pattern will be printed
   
   
   
   
9. Refer to the printed sheet and enter the numbers on the next screen.
   
   
   • Select the pattern with the fewest visible vertical stripes in column A.
   • Enter the selected pattern's number in the column A box.
   • Similarly, enter the selected numbers in the boxes for column B to H.
   
   
   
   
   * Display may vary depending on the printer.

   After all numbers have been entered, click 'OK'.
   
   
10. Now, print the second pattern. Confirm that A4 or letter-sized plain paper is in the auto sheet feeder, and click OK.
    
    
11. Printing starts, check the displayed message, then click 'OK'. The pattern will be printed.
    
    
    
    
12. Refer to the printed sheet, and enter the numbers on the Print Head Alignment window the same way as procedure 10.
    
    
    
    
13. After entering all the numbers, click 'OK'.
    
    If you do not perform the first Print Head Alignment until the printer driver is installed (also during the printer driver installation), go to the procedure 12 and print one more pattern.
    If you have already performed Print Head Alignment, as the completion message will be displayed, click OK. This is the end of the Print Head Alignment.
    
    
14. Print the pattern. Confirm that one sheet of A4 or letter-sized plain paper in the auto sheet feeder, and click 'OK'.
    
    
15. Click 'OK'.
    
    
16. The pattern will be printed.
    
    
    
    
17. When printing is finished, the manual Print Head Alignment is completed.
