Why is the battery icon blinking on the LCD? How long does the battery last?

When battery power is low, the battery icon on the LCD panel (on top of the camera) blinks. Remove the battery pack from the camera and charge it. It can take up to 90 minutes to fully charge a battery pack. (To protect battery packs and prevent loss of capacity, do not charge them continuously for more than 24 hours.)

A fully-charged BP-511 battery pack should provide power for use as follows:

Temperature

Shooting Conditions

No Flash Use

50% Flash Use

Normal (20ºC/68ºF) Approx. 620 shots Approx. 490 shots
Low (0ºC/32ºF) Approx. 480 shots Approx. 400 shots

The above figures were obtained under Canon test conditions (fully charged battery, EF 50mm f/1.4 USM lens, review function [ON], Review Time [2 sec], Quality [Large, Fine]).
