'Unable to communicate with the device' when attempting to print from Web on Windows XP. (F20)

Solution

'Unable to communicate with the device' when attempting to print from Web on Windows XP. (F20)

Attempting to print or scan while I am on the Internet, I receive the message "Unable to communicate with the device". What can I do to print or scan while on the Internet?

If the message "Unable to communicate with the device" appears while printing or scanning, an update file is required to improve the overall performance of the MultiPASS Suite on Windows XP. If your MultiPASS was packaged with a second CD-ROM titled MultiPASS"! Update for Windows XP, then you can install the update from that CD-ROM.

See the section "MultiPASS Update", if you need assistance installing the update file from the second CD-ROM.

See section "Update", if you do not have a second CD-ROM.

MultiPASS Update -
If you have a second CD labeled MultiPASS Update for Windows XP, you can install the required update files from that CD. The MultiPASS Suite 4.30 must be installed prior to installing the update file.

  1. After MultiPASS Suite 4.30 is installed, remove the CD-ROM and then insert the MultiPASS Update for Windows© XP CD into your CD drive. The update file should run automatically.
  1. If the update file does not run automatically, on Windows desktop, click 'Start' and then 'Run'.
  2. In 'Open' field of the Run'' dialog box, (where 'X' is your computer's CD-ROM drive) type "X:\mp430updateXP.exe" and then click 'OK'.
  1. Click 'Yes' to restart Windows.

  2. After Windows has restarted, attempt to print or scan again.

Update -

If you do not have a second CD, you can download file "MP430XPUpdate.exe" from Canon's web site.

  1. Select the Updater for Windows XP, or the Updater for Windows XP SP2 if you have installed Service Pack 2 in your Windows XP system.

  2. Check the 'I have read and agree....' checkbox , then click DOWNLOAD to proceed with the download.

  3. Please note MultiPASS Suite 4.30 must be installed prior to running this update.

  4. After double-clicking on the downloaded file, the necessary updates will extract and will automatically install to the appropriate directory on your computer's hard drive.
