The video files from your camera can be played using QuickTime, which is included on the Canon Digital Camera Solutions Disk which came with your camera. Mac and PC versions are available on the CD-ROM.

The video files created by your Canon digital camera are formatted in an .avi graphic format. This file format identifier would indicate that it is compatible with any program capable of playing .avi files (such as Media Player and Real Player). However, in order to save file storage space, the .avi files created by your camera are compressed using a codec (compression/decompression) tool called M-JPEG. This particular codec must be available on your computer in order for Media Player to decompress and recognize your video files.

The M-JPEG codec is available for download from a variety of sources on the Internet. Using a search engine, simply enter "M-JPEG" in the search window, then select a suitable site, download, and install the codec. Once installed, you should be able to view your video files from Media Player.
