Solution

The VIXIA HF and HG series camcorders only record HD video using the AVCHD video format. Standard definition video recording is not possible. Video recorded by high definition camcorders may be converted to standard definition using many commercially available software applications.

Video converted to standard definition cannot be played back by the camcorder.
