Description

Learn how to clean the paper feed rollers for your PIXMA iP4700 / iP4820 / iX6520 printer from your Mac.

Solution

If paper does not feed into your printer, cleaning the paper feed roller could resolve your printing problem.

Since cleaning the paper feed rollers causes wear on the rollers, perform this procedure only when necessary.

Clean the paper feed rollers

  1. Make sure that the power is on, and remove any paper in the printer.

  2. Open the paper output tray gently, and extend the output tray extension.

  3. Open the IJ Printer Utility.

  4. Select Roller Cleaning.

  • Make sure that Cleaning (1) is selected in the pop-up menu.

  • Select Roller Cleaning (2).

  • Select the paper source to clean (3).

  • Select OK (4).

  • Confirm the message that displays, and select OK. The paper feed roller will rotate as it is cleaned.

  1. Make sure that the Paper Feed Roller stops rotating. When the message appears, load paper in the paper source you selected in the procedure of (3) in step 4. Load three sheets of letter-sized plain paper.

  2. Confirm the message that displays, and tap OK. The paper that you load in the printer will feed through the printer and be ejected. Don't perform any other operations until the printer completes the cleaning of the paper feed roller.

  3. When the completion message appears, tap OK.

If the problem is not resolved after cleaning the Paper Feed Roller (A) in the Rear Tray as described above, turn off the printer, unplug the power cord, and then wipe the Paper Feed Roller located in the center inside the Rear Tray with a moistened cotton swab or the like. Rotate the roller manually in the direction of the arrow (B) as you clean it. Do not touch the roller with your fingers; rotate it with the cotton swab.
