4. Select the document type.

Select Auto detect to have the machine detect the type of the original automatically and save the image in the optimized data or select one of the document types listed below. If Auto detect is selected, skip to step 7.

If Auto detect is not selected:

To scan from the platen, select Document (platen) or Photo (platen). To scan from the ADF (Auto Document Feeder), select Document (ADF simplex) or Document (ADF duplex).

Select Document (ADF duplex) to scan sides of the documents automatically.

When Document (ADF duplex) is selected, you can specify how to output the paper after scanning from the ADF (Auto Document Feeder).

5. Place the documents face-down on the platen.
Alternatively, load the documents face-up on the ADF (Auto Document Feeder).

When Photo (platen) is selected for Document Type, allow 3/8 inches (1 cm) or more space between the edges of the platen and the document. If not, some images may not be scanned at the correct positions and sizes.

Business cards, panorama photographs and bordered photographs may not be cropped accurately when scanned. In that case, disable Compress scanned images when transferring in the Scanner Button Settings Tab of the Preferences dialog box and scan again.

6. Select what to do with the scanned image from Scanned data processing.

The following scan modes are displayed:
