Choosing a Receive Mode

If you receive mainly voice calls and sometimes faxes, select TEL priority mode.

If you want to receive voice messages on your answering machine and sometimes faxes, select TEL priority mode.
Note: Your answering machine must be connected to the fax machine.

If you receive mainly faxes and sometimes voice calls, select FAX priority mode.

If you have a dedicated line for faxing, select FAX only mode.

When you subscribe to a ring pattern detection service provided by your telephone company, select DRPD.

When TEL priority mode is selected:

When the call is a fax:

  1. The telephone will ring during an incoming call.





  2. Pick up the handset. If you hear the fax tone, wait for at least 5 seconds after it stops, then hang up the handset.
    The machine will receive the fax.








    Note:
    • If the machine will not switch to the fax, press the FAX button, then the Color or Black button to receive the fax.
    • You can receive faxes only by picking up the handset under the conditions below.
      - The telephone has no answering function.
      - If the telephone has an answering function, it is deactivated.

When the call is a voice call:

  1. The telephone will ring during an incoming call.





  2. Pick up the handset and talk on the telephone.



    Note: When the answering machine is connected to the machine
    • If you do not pick up the handset, the message will respond. If the call is a fax, the machine will receive the fax automatically.
    • Set your answering machine to answering mode and adjust it as follows:
      - The entire message should be no longer than 15 seconds.
      - In the message, tell your callers how to send a fax.
    • If Manual/auto switch is set to ON, set RX start time longer than the time before the answering machine starts playing the answering message.
      After making this setting, we recommend that you confirm that messages are recorded successfully in the answering machine.

When FAX priority mode is selected:

When the call is a fax:

  1. The telephone will ring during an incoming call.





  2. The machine will receive the fax automatically.



    Note:
    Other options
    • Set the machine not to ring the telephone.
    • Change the number of times to ring the telephone.

When the call is a voice call:

  1. The telephone will ring during an incoming call.




  2. When the machine detects a voice call, the machine will ring.
  3. Pick up the handset, and talk on the telephone.



    Note:
    Other options
    • Set the machine not to ring the telephone.
    • Change the number of times to ring the telephone.
    • Change the number of seconds until the machine starts ringing.
    • Change the number of seconds that the machine rings.
    • Set the machine to receive the fax after the machine stops ringing, even if you do not pick up the handset.

When FAX only mode is selected:

When the call is a fax.

The machine will receive the fax automatically.

Note: If a telephone is connected to the machine, the telephone will ring when a call incomes.

When DRPD:

When the call is a fax:

  1. The telephone will ring when a call incomes.

    The telephone will ring during an incoming call.





  2. The machine will receive the fax automatically when the fax ring pattern is detected.

    Note:
    Other options
    Change the number of times to ring the telephone.

When the call is a voice call:

  1. The telephone will ring during an incoming call.





  2. When the machine does not detect the fax ring pattern, the telephone will continue ringing.

  3. Pick up the handset, and talk on the telephone.

    Note:
    • To use this feature, you need to subscribe to a compatible service provided by your telephone company.
      Contact your telephone company for details.
    • For DRPD
      You need to select the appropriate ring pattern on the machine.

Setting the Receive Mode

There are four receive modes as follows.

  • TEL priority mode

  • FAX priority mode

  • FAX only mode

  • DRPD

Note:

  • The receiving operation procedure varies depending on the selected receive mode.
  • If you want to use a single telephone line for faxes and voice calls, you need to connect a telephone or an answering machine to the External Device Jack of this machine.

  1. Press the <FAX> button.
    The fax standby screen will appear.

  2. Confirm the current receive mode (A).

  3. Press the center <Function> button (2).
    The Receive mode settings screen will appear.



  4. Select a receive mode (3), and press the <OK> button.



    The screen will return to the fax standby screen. The selected receive mode will appear on the LCD.

    Note: If DRPD is selected, the fax ring pattern can be selected on the DRPD: FAX ring pattern screen.

Set DRPD Mode

DRPD Mode

  1. Display the DRPD: FAX ring pattern screen.
    1. Press the <Setup> button.
    2. Select [Device settings] , and press the <OK> button.
    3. Select [FAX settings], and press the <OK> button.
    4. Select [Reception settings], and press the <OK> button.
    5. Select [DRPD: FAX ring pattern], and press the <OK> button.

  2. Select the ring pattern.
    1. Select the ring pattern that your telephone company assigned to your fax number.
      Select from Normal ring, Double ring, Short-short-long, Short-long-short, or Other ring type.



    2. Press the <OK> button.

  3. Press the <FAX> button to return to the fax standby screen.
