Selecting shooting modes PowerShot SD970 IS.

Solution

Selecting a Still Image Shooting Mode

You can take an optimal picture simply by selecting the appropriate shooting mode.

Turn the Mode Select switch to select (Movie), (Camera), AUTO or . Depending on the shooting mode selected will determine which still image shooting modes are available.

Movie

Movie

Allows you to shoot movie clips in various qualities.

AUTO

Auto

Leaves almost all of the settings choices up to the camera.

P

Program AE

You can select the settings for various functions to suit your preferences. AE stands for Auto Exposure

Portrait

Produces a soft effect when photographing people.

Night Snapshot

Use this to take snapshots of people against twilight or night backgrounds to reduce the effects of camera shake even without using a tripod.

Kids&Pets

Allows you to capture subjects that move around, such as children and pets, without missing photo opportunities.

Indoor

Prevents camera shake and maintains the subject's true color when shooting under florescent or tungsten lightning. The exposure is regulated so as to avoid the use of flash as much as possible.

Foliage

Shoots trees and leaves - such as new growth, autumn leaves or blossoms - in vivid colors.

Sunset

Allows you to shoot sunsets in vivid colors.

Snow

Shoots without a blue tinge and without making people appear dark against a snowy background.

Beach

Shoots without making people appear dark near water or sand where reflected sunlight is strong.

Creative Light Effect

Light displays and other points of light in the night backgrounds behind your subject can be changed into any of six predetermined shapes. Be sure to use the flash when shooting.

Fireworks

Captures fireworks in the sky sharply and at optimal exposure.

Long Shutter

Aquarium

Selects the optimal ISO speed, white balance and color balance to capture fish and other items in an indoor aquarium.

ISO 3200

Shoots with the ISO Speed set to 3200, twice as fast as ISO 1600. Use when a high ISO speed is required. Avoids blurring of the subject and the effects of camera shake. Recording pixels are fixed at the M3 resolution (1600 x 1200 pixels.)

Zoom Blur

The optical zoom operates automatically during shooting, creating an image where the subject appears closed into the center of the screen.

Digital Macro

Allows you to shoot when the distance from the lens (at maximum wide angle) to the subject is within 2 - 10 cm (0.79 in. - 3.9 ft.). The subject can be shown larger than in standard macro mode because the camera trims the image edges and zooms in with the digital zoom.

Color Accent

Use this option to have only the color specified in the LCD monitor remain and to transform all others to black and white.

Color Swap

Use this option to transform a color specified in the LCD monitor into another

Stitch Assist

Allow you to shoot overlapping images that can later be merged (stitched) to create one panoramic image on a computer.

1. Slide the mode switch to (Camera).

2. Press the <FUNC./SET> button and use the or button or rotate the control dial to select a shooting mode. (You can also use the touch control dial to make a selection.)

4. Press the <FUNC./SET> button to complete the setting.

  • The slow shutter speed in the (Fireworks) mode makes it necessary to use a tripod to avoid camera shake.
  • In , , , , and modes, the ISO speed may increase and cause noise in the image.
  • In mode , shoot with the subject 1 - 4 m (39 in. - 3.3 ft.) (telephoto range zoom settings)/1 m (39 in.) - infinity (non-telephoto range zoom settings) from the end of the lens.
  • Results may vary depending on the subject.
  • In mode, you are recommended to use the LCD monitor to shoot.
