Learn how to connect your EOS 5D Mark III to a computer with a USB® Cable.

Solution

Follow the steps below to connect the camera to your computer with a USB Cable.

Before you begin

 Turn on computer before you set up the connection.

  • Connect your camera and computer with the USB interface cable provided with the camera.

  • The AC Adapter Kit ACK-E6 (sold separately) is recommended for the power source.

  • For information about operations, after the camera is connected to the computer, please refer to the Instruction manual supplied with your camera.

     

USB connection steps

 
  1. Confirm the camera is not connected to the computer, and then turn ON the camera.

  2. Press the MENU button to display the menu.

  3. Change the camera's auto power off settings.

  • Please refer to the Instruction manual, supplied with your camera, for more information about the Auto power off settings.

  • Press the Menu button to select the yellow setup tab  .

  • Turn the Main Dial to select Auto power off, and then press the Set button.

  • Turn the Quick Control Dial to select Disable, and then press the Set button.

  1. Press the MENU button to turn off the display on the LCD monitor, and then turn OFF the camera.

  2. Plug the supplied USB cable into the USB port on your computer. The port's location differs between computers. Please refer to the documentation provided with your computer for more information.

  3. Connect the other end of the USB cable to the A/V OUT / DIGITAL terminal on the camera.

  4. Turn ON the camera.

  5. Communication between the camera and the computer begins.

 The message that appears on the screen depends on the computer's operating system, software installed, or if it's the first time the camera is connected to the computer.

  • Windows Connection

    • If EOS Utility doesn't start automatically, select the Start icon or the Windows  icon. Then select All Programs, Canon Utilities, EOS Utility, and then EOS Utility.

    • If a window to select a program or application appears, select Downloads images from EOS camera using Canon EOS Utility, and then select OK.

  • Macintosh® connection

    • When the camera and computer are able to communicate with each other, EOS Utility will start.

    • If EOS Utility is not displayed, select the EOS Utility icon in the Dock.
