How do I release the shutter automatically using the self-timer and Smart Shutter? (PowerShot ELPH 530 HS / 320 HS, IXUS 510 HS / 240 HS)

Solution

The camera can release the shutter automatically without pressing the shutter button.

Using the Self-Timer

The self-timer can be used to shoot a group photo that includes the photographer. The camera will shoot approximately 10 seconds after the shutter button is pressed.
Restrictions with the self-timer function in certain shooting modes

IMPORTANT
  • The position and shape of the operation buttons, screens displayed, and setting items may differ according to the model you use.
  • The explanation here assumes that the self-timer settings have never been changed.

1. Press the < Power > button on the camera.

2. The following screen appears.

Touch [FUNC.] (
).

3. The following screen appears.

Drag the menu on the left up or down to [Self-Timer], and then touch it.

4. The following screen appears.

Select from [10 sec. Self-Timer] (
), [2 sec. Self-Timer] (
), [Custom Timer] (

NOTE
  • If [Custom Timer] (
    ) is selected, Touch (
) on the right side of the screen, then you can set the delay (0 ????????? 30 seconds) and the number of shots (1 ????????? 10shots).

  • For movies shot by touching (
), [Delay] represents the delay before recording begins, but the [Shots] setting has no effect.
  • When you specify multiple shots, image brightness and white balance are determined by the first shot. More time is required between shots when the flash fires or when you have specified to take many shots. Shooting will stop automatically when the memory card becomes full.
  • When a delay longer than two seconds is specified, two seconds before the shot, the lamp blinking and self-timer sound will speed up. (The lamp will remain lit in case the flash fires.)

REFERENCE

Touch the [Self-Timer] (
) icon displayed on the screen.
