Use the Scan Settings for a PIXMA MX432 / MX439 Printer From a Mac

Learn how to use the Scan Settings to scan photos and documents with your PIXMA MX432 / MX439 printer to your Mac.

Solution

When you open Specify in the Scan / Import window, you will see the Scan Settings dialog box. From here, you can manage several scan settings from your Mac®.

Scan Settings options

​Document Type

Select the type of document you want to scan.

  • For photos, select Color Photo or Black and White Photo.

  • For text documents, select Color Document, Black and White Document, or Text(OCR).

  • For publications, select Magazine(Color).

  • You can't select Text(OCR) when the Compress scanned images when transferring checkbox is selected on the General Tab of the Preferences dialog.
     

Document Size

Select the size of the document you want to scan.

  • When you select Custom, a screen appears where you can set document size.

  • Enter the Width, Height, and Units, and select OK.

  • When you select Auto Detect, the image may not scan in the correct position and size. If this happens, change the size to the actual document size (A4, Letter, etc.) and align a the corner of the document with the arrow on the scanner glass.

  • You can't select Auto Detect (Multiple Documents) or Auto Detect when the document type is Text(OCR).
     

Scanning Resolution

Select the resolution you want to use for the scan.

  • When the document type is Text(OCR), use 300 dpi / 400 dpi.
     

Auto Photo Fix / Auto Document Fix

The display you see will vary according to your document type.

  • Auto Photo Fix - Displays when the document type is Color Photo. Select this to analyze the captured scene (landscape, night scene, etc.) and apply suitable corrections.

  • Auto Document Fix - Displays when the document type is Color Document, Black and White Document, or Magazine(Color). Select this to sharpen text in a document or magazine.

When you select Auto Document Fix:

  • Files can only be saved in JPEG/Exif or PDF format.

  • Scans may take longer than usual.

  • You can select this when you chose Black and White Photo or Text(OCR) for the document type.

  • You can't select this when the Compress scanned images when transferring checkbox is chosen in the Preferences dialog.

  • The color tone may change from the source image due to corrections. 
     

Descreen

Reduces moire patterns (uneven coloring or patterns when photos or pictures with fine dots are scanned).

  • You can't select this when the Document Type is Color Photo, Black and White Photo, or Text(OCR).

  • A scan will take longer than usual when you enable Descreen.
     

Unsharp Mask

Emphasize the outline of the subjects and sharpen the image.

  • You can't select this checkbox when Document Type is Text(OCR).
     

Remove gutter shadow

Correct shadows that appear between pages when you scan open booklets.

  • You can't select this when Auto Detect, Auto Detect (Multiple Documents) or Stitch Assist is selected for document size.

  • You can't select this when the Compress scanned images when transferring checkbox is selected in the Preferences dialog.

  • When you scan, align a corner of the document with the corner at the arrow (alignment mark) of the glass surface.

  • Use the ScanGear Advanced Mode tab to correct gutter shadows when you scan non-standard size documents or when custom cropping frames (scan areas) are set.
     

Reduce Show-through

Sharpen text in a document or reduce show-through in newspapers.

  • You can't select this when Document Type is Color Photo, Black and White Photo, or Text(OCR).

  • Select this when the Document Type is text document and show-through is apparent in the scanned image.

Correct slanted document

Detect the scanned text and correct the angle (within -0.1 to -10 degrees or +0.1 to +10 degrees) of the document.

  • You can't select this when the document type is Color Photo or Black and White Photo.

  • You can't select this when the document size is Stitch Assist.

  • The orientation of the following documents may not get corrected:

    • Those with text lines inclined more than 10 degrees.

    • Those that have both vertical and horizontal text, lines or tables.

    • Those with extremely large or small fonts.

    • Those with small amounts of text.

    • Those with figures/images.

    • Hand-written documents.
      A scan takes longer than usual when you enable this feature.
       

Detect the orientation of text documents and rotate images

Detect the orientation of the document from the scanned text and rotate the scanned image to the correct orientation. Select the language of the document to be scanned in Document Language.

  • You can't select this when the document type is Color Photo or Black and White Photo.

  • You can't select this when the document size is Stitch Assist.

  • This function may not work properly depending on the document language. Only text documents written in languages that can be selected from Document Language are supported.

  • The orientation of the following types of documents may not be corrected, as the text can't be detected correctly.

    • Those with resolution outside the range of 300 dpi to 600 dpi

    • Those with font size outside the range of 8 points to 48 points

    • Those that contain special fonts, effects, italics, or hand-written text

    • Those with patterned backgrounds

    • A scan takes longer than usual when you enable this feature.
       
Document Language

Select the language of the document you want to scan.

  • This isn't available when the Document Type is Color Photo or Black and White Photo.

  • This isn't available when the Document Size is Stitch Assist.
     

Defaults

Restores the default settings.
