The Alarm LED (light) flashes seventeen times to alert you that action needs to be taken.

Solution

Alarm LED Flashes Orange

When a printer error occurs, the Alarm LED flashes orange as shown below. The number of flashes indicates the type of error that has occurred. Count the flashes and take the appropriate action to correct the error.

(A) Note the number of flashes

(B) Flashes repeatedly

Number of flashes/cause

Seventeen flashes:

Ink has run out./Printer detected ink out condition.

Action to correct the error

For BK ink (black ink):

Ink has run out. (The lamp on the ink tank flashes.)

If printing is in progress, stop printing, replace the ink tank, and then print again. Printing under the current condition may damage the printer.

Routine Maintenance

To continue printing, you need to release the function for detecting the remaining ink level. Press and hold the printer's RESUME/CANCEL button for at least 5 seconds, and then release it. This operation releases the function for detecting the remaining level of the above ink, and releasing the function is memorized. Please be advised that Canon shall not be liable for any malfunction or trouble caused by continuation of printing under the ink out condition.
