Description

Learn how to print on both sides of the paper (also called duplex printing).

Solution

Tip You can also set duplex printing in the additional features section of the Quick Setup tab.

Before you begin

Duplex printing won't be available and will appear grayed out when:
  • A media type other than Plain Paper is selected from the Media Type list.

  • Tiling/Poster is selected from the Page Layout list.

  • Booklet is selected from the Page Layout list.

Print on Two Sides

  1. Select Letter 8.5"x11" 22x28cm or A4 in the Page Size drop-down on the Page Setup tab.
  2.  Open the Printing Preferences pane.

  3. Select Print on the File menu, your printer model, then Preferences or Properties to open the Printing Preferences pane.

  4. Check the Duplex Printing check box on the Page Setup tab and confirm that Automatic is checked.

  5. Select the Page Layout.

  6. Select Print Area Setup.
Note When you perform duplex printing, the print area of the document narrows slightly and the content may not fit on one page.

    • Use normal-size printing to print without reducing the page.

    • Use reduced printing to reduce the page slightly during printing.

  7. The printer automatically selects the best Staple Side. Select another option from the list to change the staple side.

  8. If needed, chose Specify Margin to set the margin width, then and select OK.

  9. Select OK on the Page Setup tab.

You can also perform the duplex printing manually

  1. Follow steps 1-3 above to open the Printer Preferences dialogue box.

  2. Check the Duplex Printing check box and uncheck the Automatic check box on the Page Setup tab.

  3. Select the Page Layout.

  4. The printer automatically selects the best Staple Side. Select another value from the list to change the staple side.

  5. If needed, chose Specify Margin to set the margin width, then and select OK.

  6. Select OK on the Page Setup tab.

  7. The document prints on one side of the paper. Reload the paper according to the message and select OK to print the opposite side.

Note Ink Drying

  •  After printing the front page, there is an ink drying wait time before starting to print the back page (operation stops temporarily). Don't touch the paper during this time.

    • You can change the ink drying wait time at Custom Settings on the Maintenance tab.

    • If the back side of the paper becomes smudged during duplex printing, perform Bottom Plate Cleaning in the Maintenance tab.

  • When printing from some programs, you may have to click Properties or Preferences in the Print dialog box to open the printer driver setup window.
