Read Me First

- Before performing the wireless setup

Regarding the preparations and the procedures for using the printer in a wireless connection, refer to [ The necessary environment and the procedures for using the printer in a wireless connection ].

Wireless Setup Using WPS (Wi-Fi Protected Setup)

IMPORTANT

  • Quit all applications before installation.
  • Log on using an administrator account.
  • Internet connection may be required during the installation. Connection fees apply.

Screens are based on Windows 7 operating system Home Premium. Actual screens may differ depending on the OS version.

  1. Insert the CD-ROM into the computer.



    IMPORTANT:
    If the USB cable is already connected, unplug it. If a message appears on the computer, click Cancel.

  2. Double-click the Setup icon of the CD-ROM folder to proceed to the following screen. Enter your administrator name and password, then click OK.




    If the CD-ROM folder does not open automatically, double-click the CD-ROM icon on the desktop.


    If you do not know your administrator name or password, click the Help button , then follow the on-screen instructions.


    REFERENCE:
    If the CD-ROM does not autorun:
    Double-click the CD-ROM icon on the desktop.

  3. Select which language to use with this program and then click Next.



  4. Click Next.




    IMPORTANT:
    The Setup Guide will launch in a window on the computer screen (as shown in the below step). The Setup Guide includes instructions to set up the printer in WPS mode. Follow the instructions on each Setup Guide window pressing the appropriate buttons on the printer's operation panel. Then click the Next button to proceed to the next Setup Guide window. Now go to the next step.

  5. At step 1-1 in Connection Method Selection window, click Network Connection.



  6. At step 1-2 in Connection Method Selection window, click Wireless Connection.



     
  7. At step 1-3 in Preparation for Connection window, ensure the printer is powered on. If it is not powered on, press the ON button and then click Next on the Setup Guide window.



  8. At step 2-1 in Printer Setup window, click Next.



  9. At step 2-2 in Printer Setup window, press the MENU button on the printer and then click Next.



  10. At step 2-3 in Printer Setup window, use the up, down, left and right arrows on the printer to select Wireless LAN setup then press the OK button. The Wi-Fi light will illuminate in blue, and then click Next on the Setup Guide.




  11. The printer will automatically search for WPS enabled access point / wireless router.



    1. If the above left message (Detected a WPS-compatible access point...) appears on your printer, click Push Button Method on the Setup Guide window.



    2. Now go to the step 12.



    1. If the above right message (Wireless LAN setup) appears, click Other Methods on the Setup Guide window.


    2. Then go to the step step 14.

  1. At step 4-1 (Connection Using WPS) window, locate the WPS button on the access point / wireless router, then press and hold it for about 5 seconds. Now press the OK button on the printer and then click Next on the Setup Guide.



  2. At step 4-2 (Connection Using WPS) window, confirm Connected to the access point appears on the printer's display, press OK on the printer and then click Next at the Setup Guide window. Now go to step 22 Completion of Connection window.
    If another message appears, refer to Troubleshooting on the right.



  3. At step 3-2 (Setup Procedure Selection), click WPS.



  4. At step 4-1 (Connection Using WPS), press the up or down arrow to select WPS on the printer, press OK button and then click Next.



  5. At step 4-2 (Connection Using WPS), press the up or down arrow to select Push button method on the printer, press OK button and then click Next.


    1. To connect using the PIN code method, click the word here on the right pane of the Setup Guide.

    2. Click here to proceed to the next step.



  6. At step 4-3 (Connection Using WPS), ensure message Connect to an access point... appears on the printer, press OK button and then click Next.



  7. At step 4-4 (Connection Using WPS), locate the WPS button on the access point / wireless router, then press and hold it for about 5 seconds. Now press the OK button on the printer and then click Next on the Setup Guide.
    If another message appears, refer to Troubleshooting on the right.




  8. At step 4-5 (Connection Using WPS), confirm Connected to the access point appears on the printer's display, press OK on the printer and then click Next at the Setup Guide window. Now go to step 22 Completion of Connection window.
    If another message appears, refer to Troubleshooting on the right.



  9. At step 4-3 (Connection Using WPS (PIN code)), enter the PIN code that appears on the printer's display to your access point, then click Next on the Setup Guide. You have ten minutes to enter the PIN code to the access point.
    If another message appears, refer to Troubleshooting on the right.



  10. At step 4-4 (Connection Using WPS (PIN code)), confirm Connected to the access point appears on the printer's display, press OK on the printer and then click Next at the Setup Guide window. Now go to step 22 Completion of Connection window.
    If another message appears, refer to Troubleshooting on the right.



  11. At the Completion of Connection screen, click Next at the Setup Guide window to install the software.

     

  12. Click here to go to the next step.

 

 


Install the Software (Information)

Let's perform the software installation.

  1. At the Software Installation List screen, select the items to install and then click Next.

     

    REFERENCE:
    Easy-WebPrint EX
    Easy-WebPrint EX is Web print software that is installed on the computer when installing the supplied software. Internet Explorer 7 or later (Windows) is required to use this software. An Internet connection is required for installation.

    Follow any on-screen instructions to proceed with the software installation.

  2. Click Add Printer.

     

    REFERENCE
    The alphanumeric characters after Canon xxx series is the machine's Bonjour service name or MAC address.
    If the machine is not detected, make sure of the following.

    • The machine is turned on.

    • The firewall function of any security software is turned off.

    • The computer is connected to the access point.

      REFERENCE:
      XXX: xxx refers to the model name you are using.


     

  3. Select Canon xxx series Canon IJ Network and click Add.


    CAUTION:

    If you will be installing the Canon printer driver on Mac OS X and using the printer through a network connection, you can select [Bonjour] or [Canon IJ Network] in the [Add Printer] dialog.

    If [Bonjour] is selected, remaining ink level messages may differ from those indicated by [Canon IJ Network].

    Canon recommends you to use [Canon IJ Network] for printing.


     

  4. Click Next.

  5. At Setup Complete screen, click Next.


    - Important Information for the Installation

    • Necessary Information for the User Registration


    When the serial number is not displayed on the registration screen automatically, input the serial number located inside the machine (as shown in the illustration).

    IMPORTANT:

    If the power is on, the Print Head Holder will move when the Scanning Unit (Cover) (A) is opened.
    If the Extended Survey Program screen appears

    If you can agree to Extended Survey Program, click Agree.

    If you click Do not agree, the Extended Survey Program will not be installed.

    (This has no effect on the machine's functionality.)

    • When the Test Print window is displayed


    Test printing will be performed to check the printer's operation.

    Load plain paper into the printer and click Execute.

    After test printind, click Next.

    To skip test printing, click [Next] instead of [Execute].


     

  6. Click Exit to complete the installation.

    Remove the Setup CD-ROM and keep it in a safe place.


     

  7. Solution Menu EX starts.


    The end of the procedure of the wireless LAN setup.
