Description

Learn how to locate and remove a paper jam from your PIXMA MG5420 / MG5422 printer.

Solution

Paper may be jammed in various parts of the printer.  Review the options below and follow the appropriate steps to resolve your specific type of paper jam.

If you need to turn off the machine to remove jammed paper during printing, press the Stop button to cancel print jobs before turning off the machine.

Paper is jammed in the output slot

If you can see the jammed paper at the paper output slot, remove the paper following the procedure below.

  1. Hold the paper with your hands, then pull the paper out slowly so it doesn't tear.

  1. If you can't pull the paper out, turn the machine off and turn it back on. The paper may be ejected automatically.

If the paper tears and you can't remove the jammed paper from the paper output slot, remove the paper from inside the machine.

  1. Reload the paper, and press the OK button on the machine.

If you turned off the machine in step 1, all print jobs in the queue are canceled. Reprint if necessary.

Paper is jammed inside

  1. Turn off the machine, and unplug the power cord of the machine from the power supply.

  2. Lift up and open the operation panel until it stops.

Don't touch the clear film (A) or the white belt (B). If the paper or your hands touch these parts and blot or scratch them, the machine can be damaged.

  1. Make sure that the jammed paper is not under the print head holder.
  • If the jammed paper is under the print head holder, move the print head holder to the right or left edge whichever is easier to remove the paper.

  • When you move the print head holder, hold the top of the print head holder and slide it slowly to the right or left edge.

  1. Hold the jammed paper with your hands.

  • If the paper is rolled up, pull it out.

  1. Slowly pull the paper at an angle so it doesn't tear.

  1. Make sure that all the jammed paper is removed.
  • If the paper tears, a piece of paper may remain inside the machine. Check the following and remove any paper that remains.
  • Check under the print head holder

  • Check the inside the machine

  • Check the right or left side space (C) inside the machine?

  1. Slowly close the operation panel, then reload the paper.
  • This cancels all the jobs in the print queue. Reprint if necessary.

  • When you reload the paper, make sure you use the paper suited for printing and you load it correctly.

If the message about paper jam displays on the computer screen when you resume the print job, a piece of paper may remain inside the machine.
If that happens, confirm that no piece of paper remains inside the machine.
