Description

This article describes what Gatekeeper is and how to install 10.7 (Lion) drivers into 10.8 (Mountain Lion).

Solution

We currently do not have any OS X 10.8 certified drivers. Our current drivers (10.7) will work. Please keep checking our website for the OSX 10.8 certified drivers.

In order to install 10.7 drivers/software into 10.8, please read this article.

Mac OS X 10.8 Mountain Lion includes a new security feature known as Gatekeeper. Gatekeeper is a security preference which can be set to 1 of 3 settings - Allow applications to be downloaded from: Mac App Store, Mac App Store and identified developers, or Anywhere.

See image below of the settings available:

If the setting is set to anything other than "Anywhere", the customer will receive a warning when trying to install Canon drivers or software.

When the setting is set to "Mac App Store and identified developers", only software that has been digitally signed to be from an identified developer can be installed without a warning. This is the case for some recent printer drivers. However, older printer drivers will produce the warning due to the fact that they have not been digitally signed.

An easy workaround for this is to right-click (or Control-click) on the installer and choose "Open".

This will produce a prompt asking if you are sure you want to install an application from an unidentified developer.

Clicking on the "Open" button will allow the installation to continue.
