| Solution | A RAW image is raw data recorded with nearly no deterioration in image quality resulting from image processing inside the camera. You can use the supplied software to adjust the image in any way you like with minimal loss in image quality. IMPORTANT - To set [RAW] (
 ) or[RAW + JPEG] ( ), it is required to preset the [Shooting Mode] to one of the following settings.
- [Manual] ( ), [Program] ( ), [Aperture Priority] ( ), [Shutter Speed Priority] ( ), [Custom] ( ), [Custom2]* ( )

1. Turn on the camera.
2. Press the <FUNC./SET> (  ) button.
3. The following window appears.
  Operate the <directional buttons> up or down to select [JPEG] (  ).  Operate the <directional buttons> left or right to select [RAW] ( ) or [RAW + JPEG] ( ). After making the selection, press the <FUNC./SET> ( ) button. NOTE - Be sure to use the supplied software when transferring the RAW images and the JPEG images that were recorded at the same time to a computer. ([ZoomBrowser EX],[ImageBrowser] or [Digital Photo Professional])
- Digital zoom, date stamps, and red-eye reduction are set to [Off] in [RAW] () and [RAW + JPEG] () modes. Additionally, i-Contrast, My Colors and noise reduction level cannot be configured.
- The file extension for JPEG images is [.JPG], and the extension for RAW images is [.CR2].
Image Recording Types[JPEG]
| Records JPEG images. JPEG images are processed in the camera for optimal image quality and compressed to reduce file size. However, the compression process is irreversible, and images cannot be restored to their original, unprocessed state. Image processing may also cause some loss of image quality. |

| Records RAW images. RAW images are "raw" (unprocessed) data, recorded with essentially no loss of image quality from the cameras image processing. The data cannot be used in this state for viewing or printing on a computer. You must first use the included software (Digital Photo Professional) to convert images to ordinary JPEG or TIFF files. Images can be adjusted with minimal loss of image quality. |
