Wireless LAN

There are several ways to setup your printer to install the wireless LAN software. Refer to the methods listed below and then click on the link for detailed installation instructions. For each setup method, the following items are required.

Requirements:

Please refer to the below requirements prior to installing the Canon software.

  • Access Point / Wireless Router
  • Computer(s) connected to the access point / wireless router
  • Internet connection
  • Computer administrative login / privileges
  • SSID (Access point (or network) name)
  • Network key (password)

Note:

  1. Prior to installing the Canon software, please ensure your computer(s) is connected to a wireless LAN through an access point or wireless router.
  2. Confirm your printer is connected to the correct access point / wireless router. The printer will detect all wireless LANs in your area within a 50 foot radius.
To verify  which wireless LAN your computer is connected.
  3. Some of the Canon software will require your computer to be connected to the Internet.

1. Wireless Using Wireless Setup Method

For the easy setup method, you will need to know your access point's name (network name or SSID) and the WEP key (encryption key) or passphrase (phrase used in WPA encryption). Dependent on your computer's operating system, click on the appropriate article for detailed installation instructions.

2. Wi-Fi Protected Setup (WPS) Method

For WPS, you do not need to know the access point's name (network name or SSID) and the WEP key (encryption key) or passphrase (phrase used in WPA encryption). If your access point or wireless router supports WPS, detailed instructions will be provided to set the printer in WPS mode to have the network information automatically transfer to the printer. When the printer is set to wireless LAN mode and the Wi-Fi light comes on, the printer will automatically search for Wi-Fi Protected Setup (WPS) enabled access point or wireless router. If the printer does not detect a WPS enabled access point or the access point does not have WPS capabilities, you can install the wireless software using wireless setup method. Please refer to the access point's manual for more details or to see if it is WPS capable.

Hint: Inspect all sides of your access point for a WPS button. If you find the button, the access point is WPS capable.

If you know your access point is WPS capable and WPS is enabled, click on the appropriate article for detailed installation instructions.

3. WCN Method (Using a USB Flash / Thumb Drive)

A wireless connection can also be set up by using the WCN (Windows Connect Now) function of Windows 7 or Windows Vista together with a USB flash / thumb drive.

Software is Installed

After the wireless software is installed on a computer, you can install the software on other computers on your network. Dependent on your computer's operating sytem, click on the appropriate article for detailed installation instructions.
