Description

Learn how to replace a FINE Ink Cartridge in your PIXMA MG3220 or MG3222 printer.

Solution

Follow the steps below to change an ink cartridge.

About ink cartridges

  • If you remove a ink cartridge, replace it immediately. Don't leave the machine with the ink cartridge removed.

  • Use a new ink cartridge for replacement. If you install a used cartridge, the nozzles may clog and you won't get an alert when it's time to replace the ink.

  • Handle the ink cartridge carefully to avoid staining your clothes or the surrounding area.

Don't touch the electrical contacts (A) or print head nozzle (B) on a ink cartridge or the machine may not print properly.

Replace the ink cartridge

  1. Turn the printer ON, and open the front cover (C), and the paper output tray (D) (see slide images below).

  1. Open the paper output cover (E). The ink cartridge holder moves to the replacement position, and the head cover (F) automatically opens (see slide images below).
Don't try to stop or forcibly move the ink cartridge holder. Don't touch the metallic parts or other parts inside the machine.
If the output cover is open for more than 10 minutes, the cartridge holder moves to the far right and the Alarm lamp lights. In this case, close, then reopen the output cover.

  2. Push down the ink cartridge lock lever until it clicks.

  3. Remove the ink cartridge.

  4. Take a new ink cartridge out of its package and gently remove the protective tape (G) .
Be careful not to stain your hands and the surrounding area with ink on the removed protective tape. Don't reattach the protective tape after you remove it.

  1. Insert the new ink cartridge into the holder until it touches the back. The color cartridge goes on the left and the black on the right (see slide images below).

Gently insert the cartridge so it doesn't hit the electrical contacts on the ink cartridge holder.

  2. Push up on the ink cartridge lock lever. You will know the cartridge is locked when you hear a click (see slide images below).

Be sure to align the cartridges.

  1. Close the paper output cover (H).

Good to Know

  • The machine automatically cleans the print head when you start the next print task. Wait for it to finish.

  • If you see uneven lines or other poor print symptoms, adjust the print head position.

  • If an ink cartridge runs out of ink, you can print for a short time in the ink out condition. Replace the ink as soon as your print job completes.

  • Color ink may be used even when you print in black-and-white. Color and black ink are both used when you clean the print head.

  • Once an ink cartridge is installed, don't remove it and leave it out in the open. This causes cartridge to dry out, and the machine may not operate properly when it's reinstalled.

  • Use the ink cartridge before the expiration date on the package.

  • Discard the empty ink cartridge according to the local laws and regulations.
