Use the Scan Button on a PIXMA MG3220, MG3222 With Windows

Description

Learn how to scan to a Windows PC with the Scan button on the PIXMA MG3220 / MG3222.

Solution

It's easy to send scanned data to your Windows computer from the the operation panel of your printer. 

There are a few things to know before you start a scan.


What you can / can't scan

You can scan the following:

  • Photos.

  • Postcards.

  • Business cards.

  • Magazines.

  • Newspapers.

  • Documents.

  • BD/DVD/CDs.

You can't scan the following:

  • A4 sized photos.

  • Documents smaller than 5 inches x 7 inches (127 mm x 178 mm) such as a paperback with its backbone cut off.

  • Originals on thin white paper.

  • Long and narrow originals such as panoramic photographs.


Before you begin

Confirm the following before you start:

  • MP Drivers are installed.

    If you don't have the setup CD, or a CD drive, you can download the drivers from our website.

  • The machine is connected to your computer correctly.

    The printer / scanner is connected to the computer via USB.

    Don't plug / unplug the USB cable while the machine is in operation, or when the computer is in the sleep or standby mode.

  • The destination and the file name are specified in Canon IJ Scan Utility.

    You can specify the destination and the file name in Canon IJ Scan Utility. For details refer to Settings dialog box.


Start a scan

  1. Make sure the machine is turned ON.

  2. Load the originals on the glass surface according to their type; otherwise, some originals may not scan properly.

  3. Press the SCAN button.

    Note The document type is automatically detected and the document size and resolution are automatically set. The scan then forwards to the computer.
    Note If the the position or size of an image doesn't scan correctly, refer to Settings dialog box and change the settings in Select Source: and Paper Size: to match the original.

If the program selection screen displays:

  • Windows Vista, 7, 8, 8.1, or 10: Select Canon IJ Scan Utility, then OK.

  • Windows XP: Select Canon IJ Scan Utility as the application software, then Always, and OK to save the settings. Next time, Canon IJ Scan Utility automatically starts.

If you want to use advance settings or edit scanned images:

  • If you scan originals from a computer using My Image Garden, the app will let you edit (optimize or trim) the scans.

  • Learn more about using compatible software to scan photos and documents.

  • Learn how to extract text from scanned images (OCR).

  • You can use a WIA-compliant application software and the Control Panel (Windows XP only) to scan originals with this machine.​
