Learn what tasks you can manage from the Canon IJ Scan Utility Scan Gear settings screen.

Solution

In the Settings dialog box, you can manage settings such how and where to save your scans.



Open the ScanGear settings screen

To open the ScanGear settings menu, select ScanGear on the Scanning from a Computer icon (Scan from a Computer) tab to display the Settings (ScanGear) screen.

You will see two main sections. Refer to the information below to learn what you can manage from each section.

  1. Save Settings
  2. Application Settings

Note The scan from the operation panel tab doesn't display for all models. If you open the Settings screen from My Image Garden, the setting items for Application Settings (2) don't appear.



1. Save Settings Area

  • File Name

    Enter the file name of the image you want to save. The current date and 4 digits will append to the file name in the following format: "_20XX0101_0001".
     

  • Data Format

    Select the data format you want to use for your image scans. You can select JPEG/Exif, TIFF, PNG, PDF, or PDF (Multiple Pages).

    • When you select PDF or PDF (Multiple Pages) you can scan images up to 9600 x 9600 pixels.

    • When you select the Enable large image scans checkbox in Save Settings, or Start OCR in Application Settings, you can only select JPEG/Exif, TIFF or PNG.
       

  • Settings...

    Select this to open the Data Format Settings dialog box to set the quality of the images you want to save. You can also set a keyword search of PDF files and their compression type, and the data format you want to use with Auto Scan.

  • Save in

    Note ​When you open the Settings dialog box from My Image Garden, this option doesn't appear.

    Select this to display the folder where scanned images will save. To change the folder, go to the Select Destination Folder dialog box and select Add... from the drop-down, then enter the new file destination.

    The default save folders are as follows:
    • Windows 10: Documents folder

    • Windows 8.1: Documents folder

    • Windows 8: My Documents folder

    • Windows 7: My Documents folder

    • Windows Vista: Documents folder

    • Windows XP: My Documents folder​
       

  • Enable large image scans

    Select this checkbox to scan images up to 21000 x 30000 pixels and 1.8 GB.

    • If you don't select this checkbox, images up to 10208 x 14032 pixels can be scanned.

    • ​When this checkbox is selected, you can't select Send to an application, Send to a folder, Attach to e-mail or Start OCR.

    • When you open the Settings dialog box from My Image Garden, this option doesn't appear.
       

  • Check scan results

    Displays the Save Settings dialog box after scanning.

 

 

2. Application Settings Area

  • Open with an application

    Select this when you want to enhance or correct the scanned images.

    You can choose the application from the drop-down menu.
     

  • Send to an application

    Select this when you want to use the scanned images as they are in an application that allows you to browse or organize images.

    You can choose the application from the drop-down menu.
     

  • Send to a folder

    Select this when you also want to save the scanned images to a folder other than the one specified in Save in.

    You can specify the folder from the drop-down menu.
     

  • Attach to e-mail

    Select this when you want to send e-mails with the image scan attached.

    You can choose the type of e-mail program you want to use from the drop-down menu.
     

  • Start OCR

    Select this when you want to convert text in the image into text data using OCR software.

    You can specify the OCR application you want to use from the drop-down menu.
     

  • Do not start any application

    Use this to save scans to the folder specified in Save in.​
