Error Code: U051 and U052 - PIXMA MG6220, MG8220...

Description

The error U051 / U052 indicates that a communication issue with the print head has occurred.  This can be caused either by the print head not being installed properly or a hardware failure.
 

Solution

The codes indicate the one of the following errors:
  • U051 Print head is not installed. Install the print head.
  • U052 The type of print head is incorrect. Install the correct print head.


Follow these steps to be sure that the print head is properly seated:

  1. Make sure that the printer is turned on, and gently open the paper output tray.

  2. Lift the scanning unit cover and hold it open with the support (A). The print head will move to the replacement position.

  3. Push the tab (B) and lift the ink tank to remove it. Be careful not to touch the print head lock lever (C).

  4. After you remove the ink tanks, raise the print head lock lever.

  5. Tilt the print head slightly towards the front of the machine and lift it out gently.

  6. Tilt the print head and set it in place. Lower the print head lock lever (E) completely.​

  7. Insert the front end of the ink tank into the print head at a slant. Make sure that the position of the ink tank matches the label.

  8. Press Push on the ink tank until the ink tank snaps firmly into place. Make sure that the ink lamp lights up red.​​

    Caution Avoid touching the print head nozzles <1>, electrical contacts <2>, or ink supply ports <3>. Doing so may cause printing problems.

    Note Before going to the next step, check the carriage area and remove any packing material, torn paper or other foreign objects.

  9. Lift the cover slightly to set scanning unit support back to its original position, and gently close the cover.

When you start the next print job, the machine will automatically start cleaning the print head. Wait for the process to complete before starting a new task.
