Description

Follow these steps to perform scanning in CaptureOnTouch with the optional Flatbed Unit.

Solution

In order to scan in CaptureOnTouch utilizing the optional Flatbed Unit (either 101 or 201), there are several prerequisite steps which must be performed:

  1. Update your scanner driver to the latest version (these can be obtained from our website).
NOTE: The Flatbed Unit 101 (or 201) is not a stand-alone device. You must have your DR scanner installed prior to installing the Flatbed Unit drivers.

  2. Install CaptureOnTouch.
If your scanner did not originally ship with CaptureOnTouch, you can download the latest version from our website.
NOTE: Even if you already have CaptureOnTouch installed, you should check website to make sure you have the latest version.

  3. Install the Flatbed Unit (either 101 or 201) driver.
NOTE: The Flatbed Units are Windows ONLY device. They will not install/work on a Macintosh computer.

  4. Reboot your computer.
This is necessary to make sure that the registry is updated with the information for your Flatbed Unit.

  5. Connect your scanner and the Flatbed Unit to your computer properly.

  6. Turn the power on for  the DR Scanner and the Flatbed Unit.
NOTE: If this is the first time the Flatbed Unit is being powered on for your computer, you should see a Windows bubble pop-up stating the driver is being installed.

  7. Start the CaptureOnTouch program.
NOTE: This can be done from either the CoT icon located on your taskbar, or from Start/All Programs/Canon/DR-xxxx/CaptureOnTouch (xxxx designated the model of your scanner).

  8. Load your document onto the Flatbed Unit and press <Scan First>.
The Flatbed Unit will activate and CaptureOnTouch will start scanning the document.

NOTE: CaptureOnTouch will automatically determine the scanning source (either your DR-Scanner or the Flatbed Unit) based on whether or not a document is loaded in your DR scanner. If a document is loaded in your DR scanner, CaptureOnTouch will always choose this device as your scanning source. If there is no document loaded into the DR scanner, but a document is loaded on the Flatbed Unit, CaptureOnTouch will scan utilizing the Flatbed Unit. If you have documents loaded in the DR scanner and the Flatbed Unit, CaptureOnTouch will utilize the DR scanner as it scanning source.

That's it. If for some reason, you are still having trouble, please check all connections and whether the drivers/software installed in the computer are up-to-date.
