Switching Shooting Modes and Scene (SCN) Modes (PowerShot SX280 HS / PowerShot SX270 HS)

Solution

The procedure for switching shooting modes is explained below.

Switching to Auto (Smart Auto) Mode

For fully automatic selection of the optimal settings for specific scenes, simply let the camera determine the subject and shooting conditions.

1. Press the power button to turn the camera on.

2. Set the mode dial to <
>.

Aim the camera at the subject. The camera will make a slight clicking noise as it determines the scene.
Icons representing the scene are displayed in the upper left of the screen.
Frames displayed around any detected subjects indicate that they are in focus.

Switching to Hybrid Auto Mode

You can make a short movie of the day (digest movie). Just by shooting still images, the camera will automatically record a movie clip of the scene immediately before each shot.

1. Press the power button to turn the camera on.

2. Set the mode dial to <
>.

To beautifully capture a digest movie, which is created by automatically recording about 2 4 seconds of the scene before each shot, aim the camera at the subject about four seconds before shooting a still image.
  • Some camera sounds will be muted. Sounds are not played when you press the shutter button halfway, or trigger the self timer.
IMPORTANT
  • Battery life is shorter in this mode than in [
] mode, because digest movies are recorded for each shot.
  • A digest movie may not be recorded if you shoot a still image immediately after turning the camera on, choosing
[ ]mode, or operating the camera in other ways.
  • Camera operating sounds will be recorded in digest movies.

), movies will be recorded with optimal image brightness regardless of the setting.
  • In [ Sports] (

    ), and [Underwater] (
) shots may look grainy because the ISO speed is increased to suit the shooting conditions.
  • Subjects appear larger in [Handheld NightScene] (
) mode compared to other modes.
  • Because the camera will shoot continuously in [Handheld NightScene] (
) mode, hold it steady while shooting.
  • In [Handheld NightScene] (
) mode , excessive camera shake or certain shooting conditions may prevent you from obtaining the desired results.
  • In [Fireworks] (
) mode, mount the camera on a tripod or take other measures to keep it still and prevent camera shake. Additionally, you should set [IS Mode] to [Off] when using a tripod or other means to hold the camera still

    ), [Old Poster] (
    ), [Fish-eye Effect] (
    ), [Miniature Effect] (
    ), [Toy Camera Effect] (
), and [Soft Focus Effect] (
) modes, try taking some test shots first, to make sure you obtain the desired results.

) mode, even playback sounds are muted. Sounds of camera operations are muted, and movie audio is also muted.
