Uninstalling / reinstalling the PIXMA MP drivers on a Mac OS X computer.

Solution

Uninstalling and Reinstalling the MP Drivers

If the MP Navigator or the MP drivers are no longer required, or if they are not installed correctly, uninstall them. Reinstall the drivers if error messages occur or if the device does not operate correctly.

Note:

  • When multiple Canon inkjet printer drivers or Canon scanner drivers such as ScanGear MP or ScanGear CS are installed in the computer, perform the following to delete them ALL. (You cannot choose which one to delete or which one to keep.) Install the printer driver with the CD-ROM prepackaged with the printer or download it from the Canon website to reinstall.
  • Login with a user name with the Computer administrator account type to delete the MP drivers. Regarding Administrator users, please refer to the Mac OS X owner's manual.

A Canon IJ Printer that you no longer use can be deleted from the printer list. Before deleting the Canon IJ Printer, disconnect the cable that connects the printer to the computer.

The procedure to delete the unnecessary Canon IJ Printer from the printer list is as follows:

You cannot delete the Canon IJ Printer unless you are logged in as an user with the administrative right. For information about an administrative user, refer to the Macintosh manuals.

If you are using Mac OS X v.10.7.x, Mac OS X v.10.6.x or Mac OS X v.10.5.x -

  1. Open System Preferences, and select Print & Scan (on Mac OS X v.10.7.x) or Print & Fax on Mac OS X v.10.6.x / Mac OS X v.10.5.x)

  2. Delete the Canon IJ printer from the printer list
    From the printer list, select the Canon IJ Printer to be deleted, and then click -.

    Reference:
    • Even if a Canon IJ Printer is deleted from the printer list, you can re-register it automatically by connecting the printer to your computer.

  3. One by one, double-click the volume icon, Library folder, Printers folder, and Canon folder to which you installed the printer driver, and place the BJPrinter folder into the Trash.

  4. One by one, double-click the volume icon, Library folder, and CFMSupport folder to which you installed the printer driver, and place the "BJExtDDI.cfm" file into the Trash.

  5. Restart the computer

If you are using Mac OS X v.10.4.11 -

  1. Launch the Printer Setup Utility.

  2. Delete the Canon IJ printer from the printer list.
    From the printer list, select the Canon IJ Printer to be deleted, and then click Delete.

  3. One by one, double-click the volume icon, Library folder, Printers folder, and Canon folder to which you installed the printer driver, and place the BJPrinter folder into the Trash.

  4. One by one, double-click the volume icon, Library folder, and CFMSupport folder to which you installed the printer driver, and place the "BJExtDDI.cfm" file into the Trash.
  5. Restart the computer.

    Note:
    • Even if a Canon IJ Printer is deleted from the printer list, you can re-register it automatically by connecting the machine to your computer.

Reinstall:

USB Installation

This is the recommended installation when you use the machine on a single computer, which is not networked.

attention:

Do not connect the USB cable yet.

You will be prompted to connect it during the installation using the Setup CD-ROM.

important:
  • Quit all applications before installation.
  • Log on using an administrator account.
  • Internet connection may be required during the installation. Connection fees apply.

Screens are based on Mac OS X v.10.6.x. Actual screens may differ depending on the OS version.

  1. Press the ON button to turn off the machine.
    Operating noise stops after about 30 seconds.



  2. Insert the CD-ROM into the computer.



    Important:
    • If the USB cable is already connected, unplug it. If a message appears on the computer, click Cancel.








  3. Double-click the Setup icon of the CD-ROM folder to proceed to the following screen.

    Enter your administrator name and password, then click OK.



    If the CD-ROM folder does not open automatically, double-click the CD-ROM icon on the desktop.



    If you do not know your administrator name or password, click the help button, then follow the on-screen instructions.

    Reference:
    • If the CD-ROM does not autorun:
      Double-click the CD-ROM icon on the desktop.


  4. Cilck Next.







  5. Click Next.

    • Easy-WebPrint EX
      Easy-WebPrint EX is Web print software that is installed on the computer when installing the supplied software. Safari 4 or later (Mac OS X v.10.5 or later) is required to use this software. An Internet connection is required for installation.
      Follow any on-screen instructions to proceed with the software installation.

  6. When the Printer Connection screen appears, connect the machine to the computer with a USB cable.
    After connecting the cable, TURN ON THE MACHINE.



  7. Click Next.




    - Important Information for the Installation
    If the Extended Survey Program screen appears



    If you can agree to Extended Survey Program, click Agree.

    If you click Do not agree, the Extended Survey Program will not be installed.
    (This has no effect on the machine's functionality.)


    When the [Test Print] window is displayed



    Test printing will be performed to check the printer's operation.

    Load plain paper into the printer and click [Execute].

    After test printing, click [Next].

    To skip test printing, click [Next] instead of [Execute].

  8. Click Exit to complete the installation.
    Remove the Setup CD-ROM and keep it in a safe place.



  9. Solution Menu EX starts.
