Experiencing poor quality images or a dropped connection when trying to send or receive a fax? Learn how to turn Error Correction Mode (ECM) on or off for transmission (TX) and for reception (RX).

Solution


Identify the issue

Sending faxes - poor quality or connection trouble
Try turning ECM TX to ON.

Receiving faxes - poor quality or connection trouble
Try changing the ECM RX to ON.
 

Steps

  1. Make sure your printer is on.
  2. Press Menu.
  3. Select Setup, then press OK.
  4. Select Device settings, then press OK.
  5. Use the up arrow buttondown arrow button arrow buttons to scroll to Fax settings, then press OK.
  6. Scroll to Advanced FAX settings, then press OK.
  7. Scroll to Adv. communication settings, then press OK.
  8. Scroll to ECM TX or ECM RX then press OK.
  9. Use the up arrow buttondown arrow button arrow buttons to select ON or OFF.
    • OFF - Transmission or reception may be faster, but image quality will suffer if there is noise on the phone line. 
    • ON - Image quality will be good if there is noise on the phone line.
  10. Press the FAX button to return to standby mode.
