Scanning Documents to a Computer

This section describes how to scan documents and save them to a computer. There are a variety of scanning procedures, ranging from saving scanned documents to a computer by performing simple procedures on the operation panel, to specifying detailed scan settings by using the ScanGear MF software. To use these functions, you must perform some procedures, including installing the scanner driver and registering the machine on your computer.

IMPORTANT
Scanning using MF Toolbox and ScanGear MF is not available in an IPv6 environment. Use IPv4 or a USB connection.

NOTE
  • If you are a Macintosh user, see MF Driver Installation Guide for installing the scanner driver and Canon Scanner Driver Guide for using scan functions.
  • Depending on the operating system and the version of the scanner driver or applications you are using, the screens in this manual may differ from your screens.

Scanning Using the Operation Panel

There are two procedures you can perform to save scanned data to a specified computer by using the operation panel.

Scanning Using the [SCAN] Key

You can scan documents by using the [ ] key. You can select the destination computer to which to save the scanned data each time you scan. You can also select the type of scan (color or black and white) and file format (PDF or JPEG).

1. Place the document(s).

b_C042.gif

2. Press [ ].

3. Use [ ] / [ ] to select <Computer>, and press [ ].

b_dis224.gif

4. Select the destination computer, and press [ ].

b_dis225.gif

  • This screen is not displayed if a computer is connected to the machine via USB and no computers are connected via a network. Proceed to step 5.
  • If there is a computer that is connected via USB, it is shown at the top of the list. Up to ten computers connected via a network are displayed.
  • If there is a computer that is connected via WSD (Web Services on Devices), it is shown at the bottom of the list (only one WSD-connected computer is shown). In this case, the computer name is displayed with the purpose of scanning, such as printing or faxing.

NOTE:
If the destination computer that you want to select is not displayed, open the MF Network Scan Utility on one of the other computers that is connected to the machine, clear the check box for the machine, and try registering the computer as a destination again.

5. Select the scan type, and press [ ].

b_dis226.gif

  • The default settings for each type of scan are shown in the list below. You can use MF Toolbox to change the settings.

*1 Text in the document that was scanned as image is converted to text data to create a text-searchable PDF document.
*2 Documents are scanned in black and white only, with no intermediate shades of gray.

  • If you selected a computer connected via WSD network in step 4, you can select only <Scan> as the scan type. The document will be scanned in color and converted to a 300 dpi JPEG file by default. You can change all the scan settings except the color setting on your computer. For more information, see the help topics for scanning on the operating system.
