Description

Learn how to forward scans to your Mac from the operation panel on your PIXMA MX452 or MX459 printer.

Solution

You can forward scanned images and documents for the printer to your Mac.

 


Before you begin

Check the following before you begin to forward scans.

Is ScanGear (scanner driver) installed?

  • If not, insert the Setup CD into the computer's disc drive, and install ScanGear (scanner driver).

Is the printer correctly connected to your computer?

  • Don't plug in or unplug the USB cable while the machine is in operation, or when the computer is in the sleep or standby mode.

Have you specified the required network settings?

Are the destination and file name specified in the Canon IJ Scan Utility?

 


Forward scans to the computer

Follow these steps to forward scanned data
  1. Turn the printer ON.

  2. Tap Scan.
  • If you forward the scanned data to a USB-connected or LAN connected computer for the first time, the Scan menu screen displays. Go to step 3.

  •  The Scan standby screen displays as you see below for USB-connected computer.

  • If you change the destination or scan settings, tap Menu, then go to step 3.

  • Go to step 9 if you didn't change the destination or scan settings.

  1. Use the left or right arrow LEFT  RIGHT to select Save to, then tap OK

  2. Use the left or right arrow LEFT  RIGHT to select PC, then tap OK.

  3. Use the left or right arrow LEFT  RIGHT to select the computer where you want to forward the scanned data, then tap OK.
  • If you forward the data to the USB-connected computer, select Local (USB).

  • If you forward the data to the LAN-connected computer, select the name of the computer where you want to forward the scanned data.

  • If you select Search again, the machine starts to search for the connected computers again.

  1. Make sure that Document type is selected, then tap OK.

  2. Use the left or right arrow LEFT  RIGHT to select the document type, then tap OK.
  • When you forward the scanned data to the computer searched with WSD, you can't select the document type.
 
  • The (*) asterisk on the printer screen indicates the current setting.​
  • Auto Scan

    • The machine detects the type of the originals automatically and the image is forwarded in the optimized size, resolution and data format.

    • This item is available only when the machine is connected to the computer with a USB cable.

    • You can select Auto scan only when you forward the scanned data to the USB-connected computer.

    • Load originals properly by to their type; otherwise, some originals may not be scanned properly.

    • The items below can be scanned.
      • Photos, postcards, visit cards, magazines, newspapers, documents, BD/DVD/CDs.
         
    • ​The items below can't be scanned properly.
       
      • A4 sized photos.

      • Documents smaller than 5 inches x 7 inches (127 mm x 178 mm) such as a paperback with its backbone cut off.

      • Originals on thin white paper.

      • Long and narrow originals such as panoramic photographs.

  • Document
     
    • Scans the original on the scanner glass or in the document feeder with the optimized settings for the document to be scanned.
       
  • Photo
    • Scans the original on the glass as a photo data with the optimized settings for a photo to be scanned.

    • ​When you scan originals from the document feeder, it may take longer to scan the first page.

  1. Specify each scan setting in order.

     Details on setting items on the operation panel of the machine.

  • Go to step 9 when Auto scan is selected for Document type.

  • Make sure that Scan size is selected, then tap OK.

  • Use the left or right arrow LEFT  RIGHT to select the scan size, then tap OK.

  • Make sure that Data format is selected, then tap OK.

  • Use the left or right arrow LEFT  RIGHT to select the data format, then tap OK.

  • Make sure that Scan resolution is selected, then tap OK.

  • Use the left or right arrow LEFT  RIGHT  to select the scan resolution, then tap OK.

  • The Scan standby screen displays after all the settings have been specified.

  1. Load the original document on the glass surface or in the document feeder.

  2. Select Color for color scans, or Black for black & white scans.

When you forward the scanned data to the computer with WSD, tap the color button.

  • ​If the original isn't loaded properly, a message displays on the screen. Load the original on the glass or in the document feeder.​

  • If you load the original in the document feeder:

    • The machine will start the scan and the data forwards to the computer.

  • If you load the original on the glass surface:

    • When you select JPEG or TIFF for Data format, the machine starts the scan and scanned data is forwarded to the computer.

    • When you select PDF or Compact PDF for Data format, the confirmation screen will as you again if you would like to scan more documents.

    • Select Yes and tap the OK button to scan the originals continuously. Load the next document on the glass surface to continue.

    • Select No and tap the OK button to complete a scan and forward the data to the computer in one PDF file.

    • Scanned data forwards to the computer based on the settings specified in Canon IJ Scan Utility.

    • Remove the original on the glass surface or from the document output slot after a scan is complete.

 If the scan result with Auto scan isn't satisfactory, select Document or Photo based on the original in step 7, then specify the scan size or other setting items in step 8.
 


Scan originals with advanced settings, edit, or print the scanned images

  • If you scan originals from a computer with My Image Garden, it enables you to edit the scanned images with functions such as optimize or trim.

  • In addition, you can edit or print the scanned images with the compatible application software.

  • You can also scan original photos and documents.
