Description

Learn how to remove a paper jam in your PIXMA MX392.

Solution

The instructions below will show you how to remove a paper jam from your printer.

Before you begin

If you turn off or unplug the printer you may stop a fax in progress or delete any faxes stored in the printer's memory.

  • If you need to turn off the printer to remove the paper jam, press the Stop button to cancel print jobs before you turn off the printer.

Paper jam in the paper output slot

  1. Hold the paper with your hands, then pull the paper out slowly not to tear it.

You may damage the machine if you pull the paper forcibly from the front tray.

If you cannot pull the paper out, turn the machine off and turn it back on. The paper may be ejected automatically.

  1. Reload the paper, and press the OK button on the machine.

  2. Confirm that you use paper suited for prints and are loaded correctly.

  3. We recommend you use paper other than A5 sized one to print documents with photos or graphics; otherwise, the printout may curl and cause paper exit jams.

  1. If you turned off the machine, all print jobs in the queue are canceled. Reprint if necessary.

Paper Jam inside the printer at the transport unit

  1. Turn the machine off, then unplug the power cord.

  2. Open the document tray, then open the document cover.

  3. Stand the machine with the right side face down.

  4. If you can see the paper jam at the front tray, stand the machine with the front tray open.

Stand the machine on a wide and flat surface and make sure to hold it securely and be careful not to hit it on a hard object.

  5. Push the open lever to open the transport unit.

  1. When you open the transport unit, support the machine with your hand so that it does not fall down.

  2. Pull out the paper slowly and support the machine with your hand so that it does not fall down.

If the paper is rolled up and it is difficult to remove, grasp the edges then remove it. If you cannot remove the paper from the transport unit, close it then stand the machine upright. Open the paper output cover to remove the paper.

  1. Close the transport unit.

After you close the transport unit, do not keep the machine upright.

  2. Plug the printer back in and turn it on.

  3. Reload the paper.

  4. All print jobs in the queue are canceled. Reprint if necessary.

Paper jam inside the machine

  1. Turn off the printer, and unplug the power cord.

  2. Open the paper output cover and remove the paper on the front tray.

Do not touch the clear film (A). If the paper or your hands touch these parts and blot or scratch them, the machine can be damaged.

  3. Make sure that the FINE cartridge holder does not hang over the paper.

If the FINE cartridge holder hangs over the paper, move the FINE cartridge holder to the right edge or the left edge whichever is easier to remove the paper.

  4. When you move the FINE cartridge holder, hold the FINE cartridge holder and slide it slowly to the right edge or the left edge.

  5. Hold the jammed paper with your hands.

  6. If the paper is rolled up, pull it out.

  7. Pull the paper slowly not to tear it, then pull the paper out.

  8. Make sure that all the jammed paper is removed.

If the paper is torn, a piece of paper may remain inside the machine. Check the items below and remove the piece of paper if it remains.

  • Does the piece of paper remain under the FINE cartridge holder?

  • Does the little piece of paper remain inside the machine?

  • Does the piece of paper remain in the right side or the left side space (B) inside the machine?

  1. Close the paper output cover, then reload the paper.

  2. All print jobs in the queue are canceled. Reprint if necessary.

If a paper jam message appears on the printer's LCD or your computer screen, there may be some paper still inside the printer. Check the printer again for any bits of paper that remain.

Document jams in the ADF (Auto Document Feeder)

If you press the Stop button while scanning and the document remains in the ADF, a message will appear on the LCD screen. Press the OK button so that the document that remains is automatically fed out.

  1. If a print job is in progress, press the Stop button.

  2. Turn off the machine.

  3. If a multi-page document is loaded, remove any pages other than the jammed page from the ADF, then open the document feeder cover.

  4. Pull out the jammed document from the ADF.

  5. Close the document feeder cover, then turn on the machine.

  1. If the document is jammed in the document output slot, close the document tray as shown in the figure below and pull out the document.

  2. When you rescan the document after the error clears, rescan it from the first page.

The document may not feed properly based on the media type or your environment (low or high humidity). In this case, reduce the number of document pages to approximately half of the load capacity. If the document still jams, use the platen glass (glass scan surface) instead.

  • If you cannot remove the document or it tears inside the machine and the document jam error continues, service is required.

In other cases

Check 1: Are there any foreign objects around the paper output slot?

Check 2: Are there any foreign objects around the front tray?

Check 3: Is the paper curled?
