Description
Solution
When a printer error occurs, the Alarm lamp flashes orange as shown below. The number of flashes indicates the type of error that has occurred. Count the flashes and take the appropriate action to correct the error.
You need (A) Note the number of flashes and if they (B) flash repeatedly or alternately.
The table below provides actions to resolve the errors, when the light flashed orange repeatedly lights. If the light flashes alternately green and orange skip past the table for information.

Ink tank is not installed properly, or may have run out. |
If printing is in progress and you want to continue printing, Tap RESUME/CANCEL with the ink tank installed, printing can continue. Replace the ink tank after the printing. The printer may be damaged if printing is continued under the ink out condition. |

Print Head is not installed or is defective. |

The Inner Cover is opened. |
|
|
Ink tank is not installed in the correct position. |
|
|
Ink absorber is almost full. |
|
|
The printer has not received a response from the digital camera. The digital camera or camcorder connected is not compatible with this printer. |
A PictBridge compliant device, may have to select a PictBridge compliant print mode on the device before you connect to the printer. You may have to turn on your device or select Play mode manually after you connect to the printer. Refer to the instruction manual for your device.

Cannot perform duplex printing. |
For auto duplex printing you can use A4, Letter, A5, and 5" x 7". Make sure that the size of the paper loaded in the printer is correct. Tap RESUME/CANCEL to eject the paper and print.

Automatic Print Head Alignment failed. |
If the problem continues after Print Head Alignment, tap RESUME/CANCEL to dismiss the error, and perform a manual Print Head Alignment. |
Thirteen (13) flashes |
Ink level cannot be detected. |
|

Ink tank cannot be recognized. |
|
|
Ink tank cannot be recognized. |
|
|
Ink has run out. |
If you print with and empty ink tank it may damage the printer. Please be advised that Canon shall not be liable for any printer malfunction or damage caused by refilled ink tanks.
If the function for detecting the remaining ink level is disabled, the ink tank is displayed in gray on the printer status monitor (Windows) and Canon IJ Printer Utility (Macintosh).

An unsupported USB hub is connected. |

Lamp Flashes Green and Orange Alternately
- A printer problem has occurred.
- Disconnect the printer cable from the printer, turn the printer off, and then unplug the printer from the power supply.
- Plug the printer back in and turn the printer back on.
