Alarm Light Flashes Orange - PIXMA iP4600 Printer

Description

Understand and resolve alarm light errors on your PIXMA iP4600.

Solution

When a printer error occurs, the Alarm lamp flashes orange as shown below. The number of flashes indicates the type of error that has occurred. Count the flashes and take the appropriate action to correct the error.

You need (A) Note the number of flashes and if they (B) flash repeatedly or alternately.

 

The table below provides actions to resolve the errors, when the light flashed orange repeatedly lights.  If the light flashes alternately green and orange skip past the table for information.

Two (2) flashes
 

Printer is out of paper.
Paper does not feed.
  • Reload paper in the Rear Tray or Cassette and tap the RESUME/CANCEL on the printer.


Three (3) flashes
 

Paper Output Tray is closed.
Paper jam.

 

 
  • If the Paper Output Tray is closed, open it. The printer will start to print.
     
  • If this does not resolve the problem, or if the tray was open to begin with, the paper may be jammed. Remove the jammed paper, reload paper properly in the printer, then press the RESUME/CANCEL button on the printer.

  • Paper Jams


Four (4) flashes
 

Ink tank is not installed properly, or may have run out.  
  • Re-install an appropriate ink tank.

  • If the lamp on the ink tank is flashing, ink may have run out.

  • Replacing the ink tank is recommended.

If printing is in progress and you want to continue printing, Tap RESUME/CANCEL with the ink tank installed, printing can continue. Replace the ink tank after the printing. The printer may be damaged if printing is continued under the ink out condition.


Five (5) flashes
 

Print Head is not installed or is defective.  
  • Follow the directions given in your setup manual to install the Print Head.
     
  • If the Print Head is already installed, remove the Print Head once and then reinstall it.

Six (6) Flashes
 

The Inner Cover is opened.

 

  • If the Inner Cover is open when you start to print, close the Inner Cover and tap RESUME/CANCEL on the printer.


Seven (7) Flashes
 

Ink tank is not installed in the correct position.


 

  • If the lamp on the ink tank is flashing try to reinstall the ink tank.
     
  • If that does not resole the error make sure you do not have more than one ink tanks of the same color installed.


Eight (8) flashes
 

Ink absorber is almost full.

 
  • The ink absorber is becoming full.
     
  • The printer has a built-in ink absorber to hold the ink used during Print Head Cleaning.

  • Tap RESUME/CANCEL on the printer to cancel the error so you can continue printing.


Nine (9) flashes
 

The printer has not received a response from the digital camera. The digital camera or camcorder connected is not compatible with this printer.  
  • Check the device connected to the printer. Printing photos directly is possible only with a PictBridge compliant device.
     
  • A communication time out occurs if an operation takes too long or if it takes too much time to send data. This may cancel printing. In such cases, disconnect and reconnect the USB cable.
     
  • If the error is still not resolved, check if you can print another photograph.

 

 A PictBridge compliant device, may have to select a PictBridge compliant print mode on the device before you connect to the printer. You may have to turn on your device or select Play mode manually after you connect to the printer. Refer to the instruction manual for your device.


Ten (10) flashes
 

Cannot perform duplex printing.  
  • The size of paper may not be compatible with automatic duplex printing. T
 For auto duplex printing you can use A4, Letter, A5, and 5" x 7". Make sure that the size of the paper loaded in the printer is correct. Tap RESUME/CANCEL to eject the paper and print.


Eleven (11) flashes
 

Automatic Print Head Alignment failed.  
  • Print Head nozzles are clogged.

    Press the RESUME/CANCEL button to dismiss the error, and print the nozzle check pattern to check the status of the Print Head.

    For Automatic Print Head Alignment, always load paper on the Rear Tray.
 
  • The Paper Output Slot is exposed to strong light.

    Adjust your operating environment and/or the position of the printer so that the Paper Output Slot is not exposed directly to strong light.

 If the problem continues after Print Head Alignment, tap RESUME/CANCEL to dismiss the error, and perform a manual Print Head Alignment.

Thirteen (13) flashes
 

Ink level cannot be detected.

 
  • Replace the ink tank and close the Top Cover.
     
  • If you want to continue to print, you need to disable the ink detection function. Press and hold the RESUME/CANCEL for at least 5 seconds, and then release it.

    cautionIf you print with and empty ink tank it may damage the printer.  Please be advised that Canon shall not be liable for any printer malfunction or damage caused by refilled ink tanks.

     If the function for detecting the remaining ink level is disabled, the ink tank is displayed in gray on the printer status monitor (Windows) and Canon IJ Printer Utility (Macintosh).


Fourteen (14) Flashes
 

Ink tank cannot be recognized.  
  • The ink tank is not compatible with this printer. (The lamp on the ink tank is off.)
     
  • Install an appropriate ink tank.


Fifteen (15) Flashes
 

Ink tank cannot be recognized.  
  • An Ink tank error has occurred.

  • Replace the ink tank.


Sixteen (16) Flashes
 

Ink has run out.  
  • If the lamp on the ink tank flashes the ink has run out.
     
  • Replace the ink tank and close the Top Cover.
     
  • If you want to continue to print, you need to disable the ink detection function. Press and hold the RESUME/CANCEL for at least 5 seconds, and then release it.

Nineteen (19) Flashes
 

An unsupported USB hub is connected.
  • If a PictBridge compliant device is connected via a USB hub, remove the hub and connect it directly to the printer.

 

Lamp Flashes Green and Orange Alternately

  • A printer problem has occurred.
     
  • Disconnect the printer cable from the printer, turn the printer off, and then unplug the printer from the power supply.
     
  • Plug the printer back in and turn the printer back on.
