Description

Learn how to connect the PIXMA iP7220 to your wireless network (LAN).

Solution

This article is for connection to a Windows PC.  Refer to this article for wireless connection with a Mac®.

Connect to the network

If this is the first time you will install the printer on your network, we recommend that you follow the step-by-step setup included with the software that shipped with your printer.

  1. Insert the Setup CD into your computer's disc drive. If you don't have the CD, or if you don't have a disc drive in your computer, download the iP7220 drivers and software.

  2. You will see the following page. Your operating system is automatically detected.  If it's not detected, select it from the drop-down menu.

  3. Select either the Recommended Downloads or the Drivers tab.

  4. Choose the Select button to the right of the iP7200 Series Mini Master Setup.

  5. Place a check in the box to indicate that you agree to the terms of the Disclaimer.  Select the Download button to download the file to your computer.

  6. Once the download completes, double-click on the file from its download location to begin the installation.

Check the wireless connection

Be sure to turn the printer on and make sure it's connected to your wireless network.

An Ad-hoc connection, which establishes a direct connection to the computer over a wireless connection without a wireless router, isn't supported.

Notes on Network Connection

  • The setup of your wireless router may vary depending on where you install it.  For details, refer to your device's instruction manual or contact its manufacturer.

  • If you're in an office, talk to your network administrator before you connect the printer.

  • If you connect to a unsecure network, there's a risk that your data can be accessed by a third party.

  • If you get an error message, or if you have trouble with the network connection, refer to the part of the printer's manual called Network Setup: Troubleshooting.

  • Make sure the printer and the computer are on the same network.

Software installation

To use the printer with a computer, you also need to install the software and drivers to the computer. The installation process takes about 20 minutes, but that can vary depending on the computer environment or the number of applications you want to install.

Good to know

  • Log on as the administrator (or a member of the Administrators group).

  • Quit all other applications before installation.

  • Don't switch users during the installation process.

  • An internet connection may be required during the installation. Connection fees may apply. Consult your internet service provider.

  • It may be necessary to restart your computer during the installation process. Follow the on-screen instructions and don't remove the Setup CD during the restart. The installation resumes once your computer restarts.

  • If the firewall function of your security software is turned on, a warning message may appear that Canon software is attempting to access the network. If such a warning message appears, set the security software to always allow access.
