Learn about possible solutions for when printing wirelessly and the message "Printer is offline" appears.

Solution

If you attempt to print wirelessly and see a message telling you that the printer is offline, there are various reason this may occur.

Resolve your printer connection

Here are possible solutions to successfully print wirelessly.
  • Make sure the printer is plugged in and turned ON.

  • Confirm that the printer and the computer are connected to the same network (wireless router).
To verify this, print out the network settings, check the listing for the wireless router (SSID), and make sure it matches the name of the router connected to your computer.
Learn more about how to select the correct wireless router (SSID) when connecting your printer wirelessly on a Windows PC or Mac®.

  • Make sure to send the print job to the correct printer.
If the print job is sent to a printer that's no longer connected to your computer, you may get the "printer is offline" message.

  • If your printer's signal strength is low, move the printer closer to the access point (or wireless router).
To check signal strength, print out the network settings. The higher the percentage, the stronger the signal.
You may need to power cycle the printer and router to restore network communication.

  • If you use a Windows PC, follow the steps below to make sure the "Use Printer Offline" option is disabled.
    1. Hold the Windows Windows icon key on the keyboard and type the letter R. This opens a Run box.

    2. In the Run box, type control printers, then select OK.
