If the paper feed roller is dirty or covered with paper dust, the paper may not feed correctly, so it's time to clean the paper feed roller.
Cleaning will wear out the paper feed roller, so perform this only when necessary.
Before you begin
Prepare the following:
Clean the paper feed roller
Make sure the printer is turned ON for all these steps.
Select Roller cleaning

Press the MENU button.

Select Setup, then press OK.

Select Maintenance, then press OK.

Select Roller cleaning, then press OK.

Select Yes at the confirmation screen, then press OK.

Select the paper source to clean - cassette (upper) or cassette (lower), then press OK.

Follow the prompt to remove any paper from the paper source you selected in Step 6 above.

Press OK. The paper feed roller rotates as it cleans.
Clean the paper feed roller with paper

Make sure the paper feed roller stops rotating, then follow the message to load plain paper in the cassette you chose in step 6 above.

Upper paper tray

Cut a single sheet of A4 or letter-sized plain paper into four pieces.

Load them in the upper cassette with the top and bottom edges (A) towards the back side of the cassette (upper).

Lower paper tray

Load three sheets of A4 or letter-sized paper in the lower cassette.

Gently open the paper output tray and extend the paper output support. If necessary, close the inner cover.

Press OK to start the printer cleaning.

The cleaning is complete when the paper ejects and the completion message appears.

Press OK to return to the Maintenance screen.
If the problem doesn't resolve after you clean the paper feed roller, service is required.
There are two options currently available to you.
- Warranty Service – If you are within the 1-year manufacturer’s warranty and have your proof of purchase you are entitled to service or replacement. If you have purchased a CarePak Canon extended warranty, you may be entitled to additional options. Please create or log into your Canon Account to obtain service.
- Out of Warranty – If you are outside of your warranty period, you may qualify for purchasing a replacement through the Canon Upgrade Program. Please contact our Sales group to inquire about your upgrade options at 866-443-8002.
